For the average user like myself I cant see any difference except the price, are they really worth it?

How do you go from asking a bloke if he blew his load into another bloke to asking about smart phones?

To answer your question, there is little difference

If you can't see a difference buy the cheapest one, it's that easy.

There is a considerable difference but If you're on ready to go, I dont think the jump in price is actually worth it.

You really do get what you pay for but to be honest, a model that's on the market a couple of years should still be an excellent buy for reasonable cost.
Avoid the cheapo crap that promises to be as good as a Samsung etc.

For approximately a year-and-a-half I have been using a €150 Moto G with an abuse-resistant case and it's still going strong - the case and water resistance of the phone itself has saved it a number of times. I don't think spending 4 times the cost of the Moto G would provide four times the functionality.

My girlfriend has a 30 euro smartphone. It does feel cheap and can be awkward to use. Most people don't need the latest 600 euro phone but I would want to spend 100-200 for something that is pleasant to use.

I have a samsung S4 and its been in for repair once and im considering sending it in again, granted it is nearly 20 months old But I still think a €100 phone is better value.

Only my opinion comparing Samsung to other cheap smart phones I've had.

Theres no need for that. That other thread was trending at the same time as this one. I read that comment just before I came in to this thread.

I suggest you modify your post.

Vodafone smart ultra 6. I got one as a present a month ago. 180 euro I think. Super job. They're not long out either. My only complaint personally is that it's too big, but sure that's how the phones are gone nowadays.

I've had a few cheap smartphones before, and they were genuinely painful to use. Frequently locked up, stalled, and left me unable to perform the most basic tasks of a mobile telephone: i.e., send/receive calls and messages, so I believe there's a huge difference.

If I couldn't afford a decent smartphone, I would either buy second-hand or simply make do with an old-style "dumb-phone" (although being honest I would struggle to go back to the pre- "Google in your pocket" days).

I would always prefer a second-hand version of the flagship model from a year or three ago than a recent-release and brand-new cheap smartphone.

This. I have a very basic smart phone that I've had for the last 3 years and it does the job. I don't see the point in paying for the internet on my phone as well as paying for it at home.

Have a Moto E that I bought for 80 squids and it does the job for me. Typing out Whatsapps on it is a bit of a pain as it's a small phone but otherwise it's ideal for my needs.

Best value is a flagship phone from a year or 2 back. They come available sometimes. Like the HTC M7 that popped up in bargain alerts forum on boards a while back. The ones that start life as cheap phones can be a bit slow especially when scrolling a bit jumpy even. I had one when my HTC stopped charging and I hated it, it was a Huawei something or other can't remember the exact model. In the end I sent mine in for repair it was only 30 quid and was delighted when I got it back. I have the M9 now but the M7 was every bit as good.

If you use it alot it might be worth getting something that's fast and not a pain to use. The higher end phones usually get supported better so mightn't be outdated as quick and get security updates

I'm another moto g first generation fan. It does the job and it's 2 years old. I was going to upgrade, but with all the updates and running lollipop, it will do for another year or until the battery dies. Don't spend such a lot of money on something that's delicate and is kept in your pocket.

A lot of the cost of an expensive phone comes from the tactile metal and glass casing, which is immediately covered by a cheapo gel case and screen protector.

Some budget phones are annoying and sluggish but there are plenty of exceptions. Others can be made better by removing bloat and giving a clean OS. Don't ever rule out a smartphone because of it's price. There are plenty of decent bargains out there if you're willing to do some research and get your hands dirty by installing a new software.
