Thanks OP , works out about 70 euro , I have placed an order , I probably only 10-12 , but Im sure I wont have a problem shifting the others , or else have a lifetime supply of bulbs. Probably will recoup the outlay anyway in 12 months on electricity costs.

Just realized after buying that my spots are not dimmable, just plain on/off. ah well. couldn't pass over a bargain. TY op.

Thanks, I have ordered, does anyone know what the dimensions on these are? For the down lights I have before I bought from Ebay and the bulbs didnt fit....

    Thanks

Just to note that for me it said dispatch in 2 to 3 weeks. Also beam angle is quite narrow at 40o. Having said that its an awful lot of bulbs for the money.

    Sorry found them 6.1 x 5.1 x 5.1 cm

Anyone know if the 6.1 cm would be height? Thanks

Being doing some googling, good find OP.

Many other bulbs have a 120 degrees rather than the 40 these ones have.

These would probably be good for display cabinets etc.

I'm looking for dimmables for living areas, hallway etc. so think these might be a bit narrow producing dark areas.

Also many LEDs have a very cold clinical light. Make sure you are happy enough to have quite a cold white light in areas before you purchase.

    2700K should be pretty warm - http://www.seesmartled.com/kb/choosing_color_temperature/

Some good stuff on the angles here - http://blog.greenlightingled.com/led-lamp-beam-angle-comparison-chart/

Need to see If I can see what the angle is on the current halogens.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,029 ✭✭✭um7y1h83ge06nx

I stand corrected about the beam angle - a standard halogen GU10 has a 38 degree angle according to my searching.

Need to go home this evening and see if my bulbs are definitely GU10. :)

what do you mean? these are mains voltage so to make them dimmable you only need to add a dimmer switch.

That would be two doubles switches that I would have to replace with half and half switches. Maybe someday when I feel like doing more than just replacing a few lightbulbs.

Are these dimmable with standard dimmer switch, or do you need special PWM dimmer switch?

Can you not use them in standard GU10 spots? mine are not dimmable either but I took it you could use in standard switch light?

    Yes you can. of course.
Just stated as dimmables are usually more expensive than standards.

you need to get trailing edge dimmer, the standard ones wont work.

Ted1, If i was to use a trailing edge dimmer, could I ever use standard bulds again without replacing dimmer?

It will be interesting to see what Amazon do now. They are selling them at about £9/bulb now but the ones they just removed were for about £1/bulb.

Will they honor existing orders? I think they have the right to retrospectively cancel the order? Anyone know the law!

Don't think they have sold them to us yet. Credit card has not been charged yet. I too hope they honor their mistake.

I really hope you guys get them. I had them in my basket and then bang, removed automatically. It equates to over €200 per person and it was live for approx 2hrs. That could amount to quite a few quid based oh how quickly word spread. I know it's insignificant when you're talking about Amazon but the jury's out no this one. Fingers crossed for what will be up there with the 'Best B.A Steals of 2014' if honored.

Incandescent bulbs work absolutely fine with trailing edge dimmers; indeed they should last longer than with leading edge dimmers.

    Law?

They can simply say there was an error and cancel the order. They only have to refund you if they have already taken money.

Fully covered in standard term and conditions of virtually every web store and you will have agreed to the t&c when purchasing.

I was wishfully hoping that it would be similar to normal retail where, I believe, if an item has a price on it and you bring it to the till the shop have to honor the advertised price!

However, you are probably right in that they have something different in their T&C's for web retail.

I got an auto confirm of my order and nothin to the contrary yet so fingers crossed they will honor it.

    .

That is totally and utterly untrue. A shop dies NOT have to honor a price on an item.

The price is called an "invitation to treat" Not until you get to the till and price is given and you agree and hand over payment is a guaranteed price set.

However shops cam not be purposely misleading in their pricing, but errors do occur.

Imagine if someone put a €9.95 sticker on a 40" tv - do you think the shop should sell for that? (it would be a criminal offence if someone did that and the same person tried to buy it for that price)

The Amazon T&C's are fairly clear cut

    Quote 1 :
Despite our best efforts, a small number of the items in our catalogue may be mispriced. We will verify pricing when processing your order and before we take payment. If we have made a mistake and a product's correct price is higher than the price on the website, we may either contact you before dispatch to request whether you want to buy the product at the correct price or cancel your order. If a product's correct price is lower than our stated price, we will charge the lower amount and send you the product. price is higher than the price on the website, we may either contact you before dispatch to request whether you want to buy the product at the correct price or cancel your order. If a product's correct price is lower than our stated price, we will charge the lower amount and send you the product.

    Quote 2:
The Order Confirmation is acknowledgement that we have received your order, and does not confirm acceptance of your offer to buy the product(s) or the services ordered. We only accept your offer, and conclude the contract of sale for a product ordered by you, when we dispatch the product to you and send e-mail or post a message on the Message Centre of the website confirming to you that we've dispatched the product to you (the "Dispatch Confirmation").

Roll on the despatch notice but methinks Amazon will be well wise here since they have already pulled it from their website!
