The track World Cup Series kicks off in Cali on Friday.

The Irish on the entry list are:
    Men:
    Mark Downey
    Felix English
    Martyn Irvine
    Eoin Mullen
    Mark Potts
    Fintan Ryan

    Women:
    Lydia Boylan
    Lauren Creamer
    Josie Knight
    Shannon McCurley
    Eimear Moran
    Caroline Ryan
    Mel Spath

I don't think CI have confirmed yet if all the above are actually travelling to Colombia.

As usual all the Olympic events will be on for both men and women (Sprint, Team Sprint, Keirin, Team Pursuit and Omnium). In addition there will be a Points race, Individual Pursuit and Madison for the men and a Scratch race for the women.

I'm not aware of any TV coverage (don't think there was last time a WC event was held in Colombia), and the UCI YouTube Channel is not listing this event - that may mean trying to follow it all on the Tissottiming website!

No points or IP for the women?

All World Cups run the full Olympic programme. Last year only London ran any extra events - Points and Madison for the men and Scratch and Points for the women. The equivalent Cali event in January had nothing extra

Don't know how they decide what extra will be run, but would guess it's partly driven by the numbers expected to travel to the event. Last year I understood no extra events were allowed except London because they had already sold tickets when the decision was taken

Just looked at the quotas for the individual events - Ireland have not qualified anyone for either Omnium - must be on the back of the results at the Euros when neither Martyn Irvine nor Caroline Ryan took part. That means the only realistic hope for Olympic qualification is in the women's team pursuit. That will be a very tough ask as I understand only 9 countries will be represented in Rio

Guy on the right, Hugo Barette, had a very bad crash. Looks like tub rolled, broke through railing and was knocked unconscious by impact with the stand. There are pohtos of the aftermath but I'd ask no-one post them. He's recovering and doctors have said that there's no long lasting damage.

Saw that photo (along with the criticism of someone posting it on FB). Looks nasty - suggestion was he was doing something like 70 km/h before flying over the top of the track (and his bike was also thrown into the stand).

Seen the photo and story, he has broken some vertebra and some bones in his face but there is no neurological damage thank fcuk. Hopefully he'll be back in action before too long.

I read that the barriers may have failed ?

Excited about the racing, though, go Ireland.

    Is that all:pac:

Actually initial reports suggested no fractures. Knowing a bit about these things I'm not sure they can properly confirm no neurological damage so quickly. The fact he was unconscious means there was some damage, although hopefully he'll quickly recover

Not sure about the barrier failing gadetra - personally I would prefer something giving away over stopping me in my tracks when travelling at 60-70 km/h

Looks like the UCI will be streaming Sunday's races. Eoin Mullen should be in the Sprint and Shannon McCurley in the Keirin. However I suspect coverage will probably only include the later rounds in which case the pair of them may need to punch above their weight to get in the "live" action.

Met him at the UCI track, nice guy. Hopefully he'll be ok.

Women's Team Pursuit (Boylan, Knight, Ryan and Spath) post a time of 4:35.698 to put them in 10th place. They won't get to ride again, but it's still a pretty respectable performance at less than half a second behind 8th placed Australia. Canada and GBR will contest the gold medal ride

Men's TP up next with the Irish team first up.

4:13.038 - On the start list were English, Downey, Potts and Ryan - if there were no late changes that's an excellent time for a very inexperienced team.

Great result from Lydia Boylan in the scratch race last night, taking 4th place. Looks like she managed to get into a break as she was one of only 4 riders to take a lap on everyone else.

Marty Irvine took 10th in the IP
