Buying and importing furniture and sanitary ware from Italy

Hi, has anyone bought furniture/sanitary ware and tiles from Italy and have them shipped to Ireland? Are the bathroom fittings different between both countries and what do I need to look out for? How was shipping arranged or which companies would people recommend? Any advice on the above would be hugely appreciated.

A guy who carried out work for us in our house in 2012 said at the time that he had imported marble tiles and a marble bath from Italy. However his wife is Italian and she and her Father organised everything. They visited Italy twice to organise. He said that they made significant savings.
