Looking for a tractor ideally 60hp+, needed for sowin spuds, drawin a trailer load of small square bales and general farm work like that. Any suggestions on what would be the right yoke to go for

put a small bit to your budget and get something with a decent cab, wet brakes and power steering.

+1 for any of the 90 series browns superb value for money. A David brown 995/6 would be good if it could be got cheap enough they're great tractors and feel a lot stronger than their actual hp rating however comfort is non existent :P but for a cheap farm tractor I doubt comfort is top of the list! If you go for the older tractors you will sacrifice comfort but the tractor will start to become an appreciating asset as can be seen in the likes of the 995/6 they've gone up a few pound in the last 2 years. If I were you though the 90 series tractor linked above would be the best choice. The 1494 is turbo'd and rated over 80hp perhaps a 1390 would suit better you'd get one cheaper too.
Or if power isn't a massive issue and 50hp would do you could aim for a 3 cylinder brown. David brown 3 cylinder engines are legendarily bombproof and run on the smell of diesel. An 885 or an 1190 would be the best options for three cylinder, the 885's are dear though and the 1190's are rare so I see the 4 cylinder variants suiting you better.

    I like your username selectamatic!

My late father had a 990 selectamatic. We still have it and will be moving it on shortly along with a Fordson Major Diesel and 3 non-running Nuffields.

great tractors the 990's many feel they're actually better than a 995/6 they're not far off powerwise anyways! Good to see them collection of tractors didn't get the scrap heap in times gone by, thankfully the downturn in scrap prices stopped the widespread cull of non running vintage tractors. (them GAA scrap collections were the divil :P ) We've a collection of working/non running/rough vintage yoke's my favourite is a non runner at the moment but its a 995 with the original 16 speed crawler gearbox never seen a small tractor pull like it it's due a new heart but hopefull it'll be running under its own power within the next year.
One of those non running nuffields is crying out for a six cylinder engine :D A well presented nuffield 10/60 with a six pot is a fine specimen ;)

@Madlad with regards cheap tractors there's some very good zetor models that can be got in your price range too. People will put ya off them on about brakes and such but the rebuild kits ain't to dear and any mechanically competent person can get them operational again. Zetor alway's knew how to make a decent cab too.

I like the look of them 8011 zetors and I haven't heard anyone say a bad thing about them apart from the brakes. I was thinking before I put this up about the David Browns and ideally they'd be the one to go for. If I had a 996 thatd be some job. The leylands are tempting for the price of them. There's a fair few 262's up for good money but I've gotten very mixed opinions from people about them. Another yoke that looks lovely is the IH 674 if one came up for good money I'd hop on it
