Just a quick video of an old astra I've been using as a daily runner . Was going grand until this morning until it started rattling like this . It's a 1.4 petrol .130k miles on clock . It's sounds to me like a camshaft rattling or something Gave it a service only last week . Any ideas ?

    Timing chain/ tensioner

    It's a 99 model so I think it's fitted with a belt ?

Is it an engine missfire ?? If most likely a coil pack.

Did you check the oil level?

Oil level is fine . Changed the plugs , both filters and oil only last week . Definalty not a misfire . I'm guessing it's camshaft related . The rattle increases and decreases with Revs . And disappears at about 3.5-4K revs

I'm going to drop it to my mechanic tomorrow . I've pin pointed the noise to the cam belt cover area so I'm assuming the timing belt tensioner is causing this rattle .

Just an update on this . A new timing belt kit and water pump sorted all . The timing belt tensioner was completely gone . I know it's only a cheap car and the work cost 250 in total including parts ., but it's runnibg great now and hopefully gets me another year or so of motoring
