Just one issue bothers me,

can one travel into space in any direction forever? and if there is an end, for example a big wall what is next door, answers on a postage stamp please.

space and time is curved, it comes around to meet itself again. Einstein was trying to prove this, except he was concerned with light and how gravity effects it. Time can be effected in the same way, because light traveling a distance over space is time, and if gravity can pull light in one direction or another, then it is also pulling time.

Space is curved so you could end up back where you started if thinking you're going straight. I reckon that if you travelled to the end of the universe we think of, then you will transcend into a bubble universe, and you will keep entering each bubble universe in a curved flight-path and could then again end up back where you started.

I get the feeling something doesn't want us to leave the prison.

Theoretically yes, since there is no way you could reach the end in a ever expanding universe, even if you would live for billions of years on the space ship.
