There is a shop in the 4 courts that sells it.

    Or ask in a solicitors.

Don't live near Dublin haha. Would they charge for it? Or will they print off a deed for me if I get them to witness the signature?

From what I've seen its a legal paper that you use to print and sign deeds. I want to get my name changed and need to use deed paper for the form and affidavit.

I would think that would be the way to go.

Have you any idea at all what they'd usually charge for a signature?

If you look here under 'How to apply' you can download the form and print it out yourself. Also the rules you need to follow are in the link.

I don't have any deed paper. It would cost me more to go Dublin than have a solicitor to sign it and print it for me surely?

    You don't need special paper.

    You can use ordinary paper.

Standard fee for "swearing" a document is E10.

Call the relevant Court Office and ask them so. I can't remember the last time I saw something printed on actual deed paper, if a deed poll requires deed paper it must be one of very few things that actually does require it.

I found that the people in the judgements office in the High Court were highly critical when I submitted a deedpoll on normal paper. Once they saw it was already stamped with the correct fee they backed down and accepted it.

I suggest you go to the stamping office first before approaching the judgements section.

Did you have any trouble changing your name on your passport afterwards? Some people said I need 2 years of evidence using the new name before I can change it but what am I supposed to do for photo I.D for 2 years? Like I need that for opening bank accounts etc

That's interesting, we had a stack of deed paper but never used it for anything (a deed poll never came up and its a bit fiddley with the margins) never received anything contemporary on it either.

    1. Since the advent of wordprocessing most deeds etc are printed on good quality ordinary paper. Pages should be numbered.

    2. If you do actually need deed paper, most solicitors' office will oblige with a few sheets.

    3. If you need to get the document witnessed, and are not known in the office, bring evidence of identity. Most solicitors are reluctant to witness documents for strangers. Reasons should be obvious

    4. As Uno says there are quantities of older forms of paper around in offices. Some wiil never be used. Most printing and any typing is on A4 nowadays. Some offices had smaller sizes for correspondence - paper saving which went back to WW2 days. On death of the principal you would get blackedged correspondence.

For briefs correspondence etc was typed out on large size A3 brief paper. That was before photocopiers. Copies typed and "compared" by one secretary reading the copy back to another who had the original.

Deeds were registered in the Registry of Deeds by writing out a Memorial on vellum in indian ink. Slow job. Practice started in 1704 and still going strong up to about 1980 when they accepted wp docs

Telex was a big breakthru'. I remember explaining to an eminent counsel about 1969 that he could dictate his opinion to the telex operator then in the library, and that I have have it instantly down in Mayo. Culture shock

    Likewise fax

Still a lot of unnecessary work in case preparation in legal offices, mostly at the behest of the various state offices with whom lawyers have to deal.

We are still not quite at the paperless office, but email with attachments has us nearly there
