best character to use in dark souls and why

I am about to start dark souls again, I was a casual gamer before but I want to give a serious play through this time, what is the best character to use and why?

I imagine there is no 'best' character that beats all, just different strokes for different folks. But I'd ask in that thread.
Or you could google 'most op class in Dark Souls' or something.
