Just a quick one here, I've a zafira model which was on news about a possible recall. What happens when cars get recalled. Do we get compensated or a coursty car until they fix the problem ? Have never heard of the outcome of a recall before

usually they just do a preventive fix, no compensation and most times fixed quickly enough so no need for a car.

My Father in law had a recall on his 2014 Corsa recently. They had the car for over a week and gave him an Astra for the duration.

Depends on what issue is. As said - you drive in and they fix it then and there if they can.

The recall concerns the car going ablaze from the glove compartment, I wouldn't leave any kids in the car or park it in a garage connected to your house as a precaution.

Not to trivialise something going on fire, but these are cars which were launched 10 years ago. They aren't going up in flames left right and centre or there'd be none left.

That said, if I owned one I might feel differently.

    Wouldnt worry about it.

The car just needs to be checked out by a Vauxhall \ Opel garage, I have a Zafira which is displaying one of the faults I.e. fan not working in position 1,2,3. As per Vauxhall website you need to bring your zafira into your local dealer so they can check over the car.
I have 3 small children so its something that I want to get checked out for piece of mind.
Rang the garage this morning to book it in so it can be checked out and the mechanic said I was wrong and that I had to wait until I got the recall letter from Vauxhall (even though Vauxhall haven't actually recalled the cars!!!!) After a bit of light arguing he finally relented and admitted that the car should be checked.

Just a question, I am the 3rd owner of my Zafira it was imported from the UK by the previous owner, I have never got it serviced by Opel so if there was a recall how would Vauxhall know I own the car now? Do they get the details from the Dept that issues the vehicle registration certificates?

Yes - for safety recalls, manufacturers can get the data of who the current owner of the vehicle is, from the Dept of the Environment.

I've had 4 zafiras - no problems experienced. Great car, plenty of space but a little high on fuel consumption.

On UK news last Thurs, Vauxhall were stating the fault occurred cas genuine Vauxhall parts were not used during servicing on the zafiras which went ablaze.

Unfortunately I'm unable to recall what replacement part(s) the news article referred to, but it sounded a bit unusual to say the least, as I'm sure all parts in this day & age are subject to strict quality assurance / controls.

Wud like to hear other posters opinions on Vauxhalls stand-point on this.

You would think so but I'v seen some of the damage cheap spurious parts can cause; arcing ht leads, burst fuel/oil filters/ ill-fitting ball joints etc etc, all failures at under 1k from fitting, and in some cases brands that plenty of "mechanics swear by"

I think it was the resistor in the blower fan they were referring too.... I guess anyone who has had one replaced and the replacement was not genuine should consider replacing it with a genuine one, also regular changing of pollen filter a clogged one can cause a build up of heat, that goes for other makes and models etc not just OPEL....the amount of pollen filter that are not changed is unreal.....

My zafria 2008 is serviced by opel,so pollen filter change at intervals, resistor as gone twice now, replace with original part, at this monent it has broken again so only working on setting 4.
The problem lied's with the fan motor prode to ceasing up on this model, just replacing the resistor will be a short term fix, the fan needs replacing also, but Will opel do this ?
Are opel ireland actually saying Zafria B are to be recalled ?
i also have a 1998 astra G 1750000 miles never add any problems with the fan.
This is the only trouble i have had with the Zafira be it a annoying one,
but it would worry me with the fire threat.
