Hi,Im just wondering what the performance figures are for a Irish spec 2.0 litre Impreza WRX -BHP/ 0-60MPH and top speed. Im looking at 2001 -2006 models on donedeal which are catching my eye.

I did a Google search and got 260 BHP/ 6 seconds/150 MPH,but that was on an American based site.Just wondering would that be the same for Irish cars,or are those figures for Jap spec cars?
    Thanks in advance.

Can't recall the figures off the top of my head but there kinda underwhelming in wrx form. The sti is a much more capable car and gives you far more of that "wow" effect driving it.

As for the numbers you quoted American/UK/japs are all different to each other. There may not be much difference in them but all have different fuel qualitys and emission regs.

The wrx is around 230bhp, 2006 model is the 2.5 engine

    Sounds about right to me.

There is a poster here, ShadowHearth, with a wrx so he might have good info if you have other questions easygoing39.

A tweaked 2l is probably a better bet under irish tax rates than a 2.5. But I guess nobody buys a turbo scooby to try to save money haha.

The older ones 01-02 bugeye and 03-04 blob eye had 226bhp then the later 05-06 hawkeye which are 2.5 could have 240ish if its a claimed 260bhp.

There is a big leap from the wrx to the sti both in price and performance and looks, if insurance is an issue the wrx is the way to go, but i know a lot of guys who spend a lot of money tuning and modding there wrx's to try and come close to a stock STi.

I myself have a 2001 STi and it is an animal of a car and when you drive it normally you can get 27mpg.

The 2.5 engine can have issues as far as i know it being a softer lump, and that coupled with tax would steer me closer to a slightly older 2ltr.

But i would say once your comfortable with the running costs of driving a scooby, go out test a few and buy the one that fits you the best.

I always though the EJ25 motors were fairly reliable, except for head gasket issues? I'm in the market for a MY08 STi at the moment, jesus they're hard to find here though!

Think theyre fairly good until you go down any modding route or pushing to hard. Yeah i was gonna get a new wrx hatch but apparently those blocks are made out of damp newspaper, and they sound rubbish out of the factory, you need a whole new exhaust to get the proper boxer burble out of them.

Allegebly turbo models are less susceptible to the HG issues.
I think it is accepted that the 2.0 is a tougher engine though, at least compared to the EJ255. STI is EJ257 afaik.

PM on it's way with a potential MY08 STI.

Lads, thanks for all the feedback, some great info posted on here.I'm a bit put off that a WRX only makes 226BHP,wrongly I expected them to make more BHP.STI's,the non-sexual disease one's look great, but boy,do they hold their value.I'm now sort off looking at Focus ST's now,2006-07 models can be got for less than €6,500 easy.Looks better to me,as a ST is up the years with the same performance.

An ST would be better value than an STI.
If you can stretch the budget to €10k you will get a smashing car

This is what I'd buy if I was looking for a new age model.

Had a 99 wrx, now have an 06 st. Absolutely huge difference in cars. Focus is more torque, fun, refined, a better drive in my opinion, oh that sound!!!

Only gown side to an st is tax. It is hateful to have to pay 1263 a year to drive on our poor roads in the west

If you're looking at ST's the only advice I'd give is look at a lot of them and don't buy a cheap one!

You'll be able to tell if the car has been enthusiast owned pretty easily and at this stage of it has not, walk away. I'd also get very familiar with trim levels available so that you know what you're buying. There are a lot of base spec specimens on these shores and they are lacking in a lot!
