I'm currently looking at house in Galway city and rent in shared accommodation have gone up really high on Daft.ie.

Most of them are now in the €500PCM range, with studio apartments being €700PCM+.

    Anyone else notice the same?

Yup. It's a bit of a nightmare, bro. Occasionally there'll be a decent spot for a reasonable price, but you almost have to be spamming refreshing daft and the like, and even at that it'll be snapped up quickly.

Big increase in rent over the last year. Huge shortage of student accommodation hasn't helped matters in the city.

Low supply & high demand = higher rent. Simple as that!

It won't change either, not anytime soon.

I've been scouting prices for the last few years. Rent just barely came down when the sh1t hit the fan. Now it's higher than it's ever been. Best bet is to move out of the city. Public transport or running a car and paying feck all rent is cheaper than living in the city, now
