I need a car. I drive from Portlaoise to Dublin every day so a diesel looks to be the best option.

I'm looking at around 4000 of a budget. Ideally, I'd like a 3 door hatchback that's fun to drive on the rare occasions I'm not on the motorway. In terms of size, my work car park is tiny so I doubt a Mondeo would do. I had a mk1 Focus in 1.4 guise and loved but the mk2 isnt really doing it for me.

In terms of 'nice to haves' some leather and a decent sound system wouldnt go amiss.

I currently drive a Seat Altea which has been completely **** since day one Rattly, uncomfortable, no fun to drive, ****ty CD player without an aux in and myriad electrical and exhaust problems.

    What do we reckon?

The term 'moon on a stick' comes to mind.

That could be interesting. At the risk of starting a snooze fest, what's the wallet rape potential?

It's quite frankly, stunning and a 147 was something that I considered, briefly, as well.

DP. It's an odd ad. There are 3 identical pictures and none of the front or back

Buy a good one and it should be fine, buy one that hasn't been looked after and it will break your heart. Diesel engine is found in Fiats, Opels and Saabs, suffers from similar problems to most modern diesel engines, flywheel, egr, turbo, etc.

6 speed dci megane are fundamentaly good apart from some well known niggles like window regs , keys( two are essential) mechanics have a good handle on common faults now and will easily do 65 mpg and not the worst to drive .

I had a 147 Ti with that engine, basically the same car just uglier, and it was well maintained ,serviced regularly, never missed a beat for 3 years, a joy to drive!

I kept it well and serviced regularly and didnt lose a fortune selling it, i stand corrected it is possible to find what your looking for for 4k, imho go buy that GT.

Get a quote for insurance first though.
