    Hi Guys,

Just checking, can an employer request a note from your doctor if you claim you need a piece of equipment due to a back problem? A colleague has requested an electronically height adjustable desk as they state they have a back issue. Can an employer request proof in the form of a doctors note before providing the desk as legally a desk need only be height adjustable not electronically height adjustable? Thank you

    Hi LittleFox

If your colleague has a back problem and the Dr. has advised him to get a electronically height adjustment seat why would he have a note stating this? To be fair GP's well know that an employer is not going to pay out for a piece of equipment on a simple statement. They are within in their rights to request a note, I would be more concerned if this was received and for the person maybe even sent to attend the companys own Dr. and for the equipment not to be issued.

I don't understand the issue about producing a note to be honest.

I agree, it sounds reasonable for an employer to request a doctors note for this. If the person who needs it is a genuine case they shouldn't have an issue with this.
