Favourite NFL stadium

So what's your favourite stadium in the NFL (or NCAA if you prefer)??

I'm thinking in terms of design & appearence aswell as atmosphere & experience for those who have visited one.

I've only been fortunate enough to visit one stadium, Lambeau field in the off season to do the tour & see a practice session.

It was a terrific few hours.
Lambeau is a great place to visit, and I was surprised at how small the stadium is relative to its capacity.

However my favourite stadium in terms of aesthetic is the home of the Colts, Lucas Oil Stadium.

    Love the old barn design

I don't like watching games in the Georgia Dome (Atlanta Falcons) on telly. Just seems so dark or maybe it's the dark colour of the Astro turf.

Their new stadium looks like it's going to be class when it opens in 2017.....

Have been to the previous home of the Vikings (Hubert Humphrey Metrodome) and the current home (Gophers home ground), neither are particularly amazing.

Hoping to see the new US Bank stadium which looks like it will be world class.

I've never been to any but the one I like most onTV is the Cowboys stadium. With the sun streaming through, it's a joy to behold.
Unfortunately, one of my least favourite is my team's inSeattle. That stand that narrows to a near point is just ugly.

Was at Candlestick but didnt like it, very cramped and showing its age.

Century Link was pretty cool, well proportioned and the Crows nest gives it something different

It just looks like an amazing stadium and I would love to go there. The class photo below was taken when we played the Cowboys two weeks ago and I immediately had to make it my new screen saver.....

    Levi's stadium

Lambeau usually gets ranked as the best...atmosphere, old school but good, and it holds almost the towns population!! I've only been to Metlife...it's pretty good, way better than Wembley. Heading to Levi's in a couple of weeks. Again NFL people would rank it as one of the best if it wasn't so far from San Francisco.

It really is a bad stadium in real life also. Saw the Pats play the Falcons there a while back and the stadium is one of the older in door stadiums and really dark inside also and the seats are at a really sharp angle.

    NFL Stadiums:

Geogia Dome - See above but it did have a good atmosphere.

Lambeau - One of the best stadiums in my eyes atmosphere wise that I have been to and the people are awesome. Been lucky to see 4 Packers games in my time having friends out there and every time is a great day out.

Gillette - Love Gillette as the stadium was designed with weather in mind and crosswinds cutting through it. Though for opponents but can also be tough on fans also during cold weather.

Met Life - Modern stadium and has everything a modern stadium should have. The only drawback is the stadium has no history inside it. The Giants and Jets have their own setup in the stadium but their Hall of fames and museums are at their practice grounds so it lacks that personal touch. Atmosphere was ok when I was there but it was a Jets Broncos game and there was more Broncos fans at the game than Jets fans.

Ralph Wilson - Old school stadium. Decent enough atmosphere when the place is full but modern stadium it is not.

Soldier Field - I like Soldier field and where it sits. Has the typical mid west atmosphere you would expect from Illinois and Wisconsin a like. They have done a good job keeping it modern also.

Bank of America stadium - Panthers have a cool stadium and fans in the Carolinas do get behind their teams quite well. I like the views in stadium.

Lincoln Financial field - I liked the Eagles stadium. Didn't get to see a game there but did the tour and its a pretty cool stadium. Plan to catch a game with my Philly friends hopefully next season.

    College Stadiums:
Almuni Field BC Eagles - Love this little stadium stuck in the middle of campus small and cozy atmosphere and stadium.

Bobby Dodd Stadium - Georgia Tech like Alumni has that small cozy atmosphere feel to it.

Kenan Memorial - Cool stadium and Tar heels fans like Panthers fans get behind their team

Camp Randall - Like Lambeau sconnie fans make their games an experience especially the student section when they do Jump Around. Such an experience.

UB Stadium - Old school stadium on University of Buffalos campus. Not a great atmosphere as the place was empty when I was there.

I will add more college stadiums later. I have been lucky to go to a lot of college games in my time.

Crazy how short the life span of some stadiums is.
The Georgia Dome is barley 20 years old, many of the cookie cutters (Pittsburg, Cincinnati etc) only lasted 30 odd years as did Foxboro and The Meadowlands

Fair enough the Georgia Dome and the cookie cutters were poor design, but still they had a very short life.

You would wonder if the newer ones from the 90s and 00s, which are far more interesting designs will lastva bit longer.

The Edward Jones Dome, finished in 1995, is pretty crappy and the Rams are mad to get out of it. Had a season ticket there while in St Louis and it's not great for either atmosphere or design. Stadiums don't seem to age well in America.

Personally I don't like indoor stadiums that much - just feels wrong being indoors at noon on a Sunday.

The only other NFL stadium I've been to is the Chargers Qualcomm stadium - the Chargers are also actively looking for a new stadium. Much preferred this to the dome - maybe it was being in San Diego ;)

I think domes in general age much quicker than their outdoor equivalent.

    Here's a trivia question.

What was the stadium that featured an astroturf field that became known for a discoloration/dark patch in one corner?
That same dark patch would feature in playstation games.

I googled that.... but couldn't find an answer.

    What is it?

I hope you have a great time in Santa Clara, but I can't agree that it is one of the best in the NFL. ** Rant Alert**

The field is actually dangerous to players, its an embarrassment that the superbowl is going to be there.

The stadium is over 40 miles from San Francisco so hard to justify building it so far away, they dug up kids soccer pitches to make way for parking spaces, traffic is a mess on game day particularly Monday or Thursday night games.

It's one of the, if not the most overpriced stadium in the country, they have a crazy amount of idiotic rules, including not allowing people to throw a football at the tailgate.

They don't have enough police resulting in shootings and stabbings in the parking lot and beatings in bathrooms, which people think its ok to video and upload to facebook.

They apparently built the thing on an ancient Indian burial ground (only kind of kidding).

One half of the stadium is in direct sunlight to the extent that fans can't sit there and you will often see that stand completely empty as fans retreat indoors for some relief.

But yeah, apart from that it's grand I guess, makes the Yorks a few million, costs about $70,000 to buy a PSL which allows you to purchase tickets.

Candlestick may have been a dump but at least it was our dump and opposing teams hated going there.

I was aware Minnesota were building a new stadium... didnt realise it would be so futurastic & impressive looking.

If you like sharp angles...... lots of great pictures here
