Hi all, I have a 05 octavia 1.9tdi, great car, now the nct is up in Jan coming, the millage is 310k km, just put reconditioned gearbox in it, few marks and scrapes but apart from that it's perfect, a 2010 1.9 octavia has cought my eye, now my car is running perfect but I know it's getting near timing belt & waterpump change time so that's 400€ I know front disks & pads are gonna need to be done soon, €150 and if just feels tired, so the 2010 is 8500€ dealer offered me 700€ for mine over the phone having not seen the car in person, I'm just wondering should I take the 700€ or should I get the bits done over next few weeks while driving new one and sell privately for say €1800/2000,

    What would you suggest,

    Thanks
    Alan

Always think this is gas. You could probably walk in off the street and negotiate €500 cash discount off the car, so to accept a trade in offer of €700 for your old car would be daft.

Now obviously a car like yours is just a burdon to large scale dealer, but I would have though if yours is a mk2 Octavia thst you could see €2k ish privately, so this is definitely the route to go.

I'd say you'd get at least 1750 for your own.

Worth noting that 8500 for a 2010 octavia is quite a good price, so in not sure that you'd get a discount for buying straight.

Ya would agree with the boys, work colleague traded his 05 Octavia 1.9tdi against a new D Duster and all he got was 1000. It was the older model but had only 220k km on clock and timing belt had been done at 200k. If I had known he was selling I would have bought it. They allowed him nothing really as he would have got new car discounted if buying straight.

There is no margin in a Dacia duster, if he had bought say - another Octavia he would've got €2k or more, but there's no real discounts on Dacias.

Thanks lads that's what I was thinking, in fairness I thought he was a bit ignorant on the phone when I enquired about the 2010, now it's an independent garage that would deal with the more prestigious marks like BMW audi ect, so I'd say the 2010 was a trade in off a Mercedes or the like, can't see a champagne silver octavia in the showroom beside them :-) I think I'll go for the 2010, and do the jobs on the 05 and sell privately, thanks lads appreciate the feedback

Do a history check on the car before you buy. It is on the cheap end and there are so many cheap high miler octavias out there ripe for clocking.

Possibly so but he might have wrangled a couple of €100 of the price, I think he made a mistake buying one of those in any event.

My local mechanic said clocking is ripe, he used to work for a main dealer and as head mechanic he was told by owner to do it, the garage I'm looking at say it has a cartell check carried out, what warranty do you get on car like the 2010 octavia these days, last few years I bought privately guessing 6 months is standard, will push for 12 though

Could be anything from 3 months to a year. Some warranties aren't worth a shoite though depending on who's selling the car.

8500 is pretty cheap for a 2010 diesel Octavia, I'd imagine at that price the warranty is not going to be very inclusive.

Check done deal see what there going for
Put add up for €5 ask for 2k then put of nearest offer I wouldn't spend any money on it just sell as seen
