Oil gas upgrade and advise

    HI
I know that there are many threads regarding changing from oil to gas, however a little different is that I was thinking of keeping the oil with the plan to change maybe a year or two in future.

I have OFCH with a back boiler in the open fire.
I was going to change the system to gas, but it seems less expensive to upgrade the heating controls and continue with the oil burner for now. The boiler appears to me to be working fine and is in good condition, but the flue needs repair. So I was thinking of upgrading the heating controls, flue repair, and take out the back boiler. However,
would it be just a case of exchanging the oil boiler to gas later, or are there different types or sizes of pipes that they run best with? Any other advise welcome !
