    Hi all,

So my mate is building a house on land his parents gave him a stone throw away from his old Granny's house..

He restored the ESB to his Granny's house and he now plans to run a cable to his house to save paying ESB the installation of it which he said is like 3000?

His brother and his are electricians so they can do it themselves..

I told him its illegal as u believe it is and when the man comes to read the meter he will know none lives in the Granny's house as its run down and up the lane is a new build..

He's going ahead with it but I fear he may get a big fine or some sorts? What would happen if he did it without getting a ESB qualified person? Is it as serious as I'm thinking?

    Thanks in advance

Esb supply will cost him 1800 not 3000.

Not sure if the legality of it but it's madness eitherway. It will cost him more to sort it out in the future when he has to eventually. He can't sell down the line ever as it stands. Also he is reliant on your nans house being well maintained for his power supply. What about when the roof starts leaking or there are vermin eating the wires over there, or if someone breaks into the derelict house etc.

Penny pinching for 1800 saving when all he is doing is putting of the paying until some other time.

1800 for the connection + poles (if any), could see you to 3k.

There's other advantages to not connecting: without an MPRN, it doesn't 'exist': ergo, LPT, IW, etc etc ......

He can always physically build to allow for a new connection - it's only ductwork........

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
