Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water - Costumes Trailer (Wii U)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9Vq2QZx2Ns

This game doesn't have a thread of its own as far as I can tell. I couldn't find one and it's a couple of weeks away from release. How awesome is this trailer? That's a sweet bonus and I'm sure will help convince a few more potential buyers to bite.

Reviews are starting to come out for this game. Currently sitting at 66% from 6 reviews. Gamespot of course are there with their obligatory troll score of 50%.

    http://www.metacritic.com/game/wii-u/fatal-frame-maiden-of-black-water

I expect it to rise as I've seen other reviews around the 80% mark that haven't been added yet.

The reviews seem quite mixed from what I've seen but I'll probably take a chance on it. Games like this are pretty niche and you probably need to be a fan of silly horror/b-movie fare to make it worth while.

When does the demo go up? Or is it just the full game that you then unlock the remaining levels?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

I see repetitive combat being mentioned in some of the reviews. Hope that's not true, I've a real pet hate for that in games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,130 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

The reviews are a right mixed lot. It doesn't sound brilliant. A lot of the major sites have given it around 70%. Not brilliant. Ah feck it anyway. I could cancel the order but I won't. I want it for my collection if nothing else and I do my bit to support niche games like this.

At least the box art looks nice. :(

I'm hoping this is considered bad in the same way Murdered Soul Suspect was considered bad.

Consensus is, if you haven't played a Fatal Frame game, its pretty good. If you have, it adds nothing new, don't bother.

What if you played one about ten years ago, and loved it, but may or may not have finished it because, frankly, you were bleedin freaked out after hours wandering around in a super scary Japanese old house?

Even the 6/10 I read seemed very positive. Great looking in many ways. Fantastic use of gamepad. Brilliant story and genuinely scary. Bad points seem to be repetitive and clunky gameplay. Will definitely be curious to see what you guys make of it.

I don't think that's the consensus at all, I had a look through the reviews and I got more of a "if you liked the others you'll like this one" message.

And post 666 about a horror game...so here's the best video game ghost ever :) :

FATAL FRAME: MAIDEN OF BLACK WATER FACING DISTRIBUTIONS ISSUES IN SPAIN

While we only get the digital option in North America, our friends in Europe get to go retail. When it comes to Spain, it seems the game is going to be quite hard to find in physical form. Believe it or not, multiple orders at retailers had to be cancelled due to low stock. It seems that Nintendo cut the planned stock allotment by 60%, which is quite a substantial number. No word on what caused the issue.

    http://gonintendo.com/stories/245162-fatal-frame-maiden-of-black-water-facing-distributions-issues-in

If that's true, then it's disgraceful. We better not have problems with our Irish/UK orders.

    When is this out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,552 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

    Tomorrow week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,130 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

It'll be tomorrow week week by the time we get it delivered. ;) We won't be playing it Halloween night that's for sure.

Going to Game to get mine next Saturday so all good.

Looks like Americans are getting the trial today so may be the same for us next Thursday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,565 ✭✭✭Parawind

I can't stress this enough, if you think that you might want to get this somewhere down the line, Pre-Order it now to avoid missing out on it.

I expect this to become very difficult to find post release and most likely will end the most rare Wii U game.

It's a Niche title outside of Japan, getting a limited physical release and there is only a limited edition version of the game. Combine that with the fact that there is no US physical release which means that a lot of US Wii U owners will be importing it.

With no standard version of the game being released the print run was always likely to be quite low and if the reviews have only been middling it is entirely possible that Nintendo has decided to reduce the number of units even further.

I was only borderline about getting the game myself but I realized I would have little chance of picking it up post release.

Eurogamer gave it an "AVOID!" Haven't seen too many of those since they put the new scoring system in.........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,394 ✭✭✭Pac1Man

This is the first game I have pre-ordered in years and it turns out to be a stinker! :D

It may be best to keep this sealed when it arrives and hope that it is worth something in the future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,130 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

I might keep it sealed as well now, probably will seeing as it's not great. :( My order has been despatched from Coolshop. :)

Surely ye would play the game and decide for yourselves though?

For me anyway, I don't really have opinions on games until I've played them, been surprised and disagreed with reviews a lot to realise that.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 17,137 Mod ✭✭✭✭cherryghost

Just play the damn game. Since when was an almost average of 70% a 'bad' game??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,130 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

It's not a bad game but it's not great either. I'll see, this will most likely be one of the most valuable Wii U games in years to come if kept sealed. So there is that too to consider as well.

It's at 65% on Metacritic with a lot of unknown sites giving it the higher scores whereas most of the major sites have been critical of it. IGN's score of 70% is probably the highest score of the most recognised sites.

    http://www.metacritic.com/game/wii-u/fatal-frame-maiden-of-black-water/critic-reviews

I thought EDGE gave it an 8, though I don't see it included. I thought I posted that score here before. I know I did.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,565 ✭✭✭Parawind

Looks like Gamestop.ie has suffered the same fate as Spain. I just got an e-mail saying their stock has been delayed.

    :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 699 ✭✭✭blag

Delivered from Nintendo store this morning, will play it next week, still optimistic :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,552 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

The US got their trial version the day before, I think, but we haven't got ours yet.

Nintendo let them have some kind of tiny bonus seeing as the U.S. very much got the short end of the stick. It's swings and roundabouts. They only just got Yoshi's Woolly World but they're getting the better Xenoblade Chronicles X Collectors Edition.

The game should have been called "Promotion Zero: Drowned in Black Water". Or "Disappeared in Black Hole".

The plot thickens. My order was cancelled due to a lack of copies from some Polish company. Serves me right for threatening to keep in sealed! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,130 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

I'd say it could have been the whole of Europe that had its shipment reduced by 60% and not just Spain as was the case in the earlier story. Nintendo are terrible at times. This game got no promotion in the lead up to its release and the way it's been distributed is terrible. When are Nintendo going to learn its lessons? Are they just going to click their fingers and everything will be perfect for the NX from day one? The company has so many problems.

In fairness if the reputable reviews are true, they might have wanted to let this one slip away un-noticed.

Edge gave it 8/10, they are pretty reputable tbh

Well Amazon France have shipped my copy of the game and I have to say I'm pretty shocked at some of the prices this game is selling for, well advertised for, I'm guessing its only a tempory thing and prices will probably calm down.

Both Smyths city centre and GameStop Henry st said they are still awaiting shipment...

Played the demo, intrigued, so i brought the game... :-)

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 17,137 Mod ✭✭✭✭cherryghost

Completely bored stiff by the trial myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,130 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

I read in some of the reviews that that people who played the demo were not going to be left impressed and would be put off. The game is supposed to get better after that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 luke208

I played the trial and I loved it. Just ordered my limited copy online. By the way, this is the first time I played the series.

Never even knew about coolshop til now. My order from Amazon.fr arrived this morning, must get a chance to try it out later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,130 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

I don't see anybody talking about the game here and next to no chat elsewhere either. The game still hasn't arrived. I was in contact with Coolshop. Had to fill in a claim form. I asked for a replacement. I think it's now gone up to £63 on the site. Though I see it says I've to wait 21 days. Still that's nowhere near as bad as GAME. I think they made me wait 60 days before. I know there were others here who bought this from Coolshop as well. Just the names escape at this minute.

Those who have it, do you like it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,130 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

I thought alekito and readyletsgo ordered it from Coolshop?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,565 ✭✭✭Parawind

I ordered from GameStop and I am still waiting, I am still hoping that they might get some stock. But they will refund without issue so i am not worried.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,320 ✭✭✭Ace Attorney

waiting form amazon to deliver mine from germany, hopefully twill be this week sometime.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,681 ✭✭✭Wolverine359

I actually haven't had time to play it yet, just had a very busy week. And fallout 4 is out in a few hours time... :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,130 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Got an e-mail from Coolshop this morning stating that they've issued a re-shipment. I had a choice between that or a refund. It's great that they haven't made me wait the full 21 days before any action was taken. It would also be great if the first copy somehow turned up as well, though that's unlikely given that it's practically been 2 weeks now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,565 ✭✭✭Parawind

Got an e-mail from GameStop today saying it has been shipped, so I guess my patience has paid off. Hopefully this is a good sign for anyone else waiting with other suppliers.

Just saw a copy of this in the wild, up in Gamestop Balbriggan for €69.99, and that was the limited edition bundle.
