Should this happen to any tyre with around 1,500 miles on it.

Known problem with Marathons; while their puncture resistance is good, the side walls are prone to avian gross misconduct.

What kind of tyre is it OP?

What happened? Is your brake pad rubbing againest it? 5km is my shortest tyre life, bike was brand new , brakes where very good a taxi pulled in to the stop in front of me when I had to brake hard and the rubber in the tyres literally got pulled off the threads . If you see a taxi with a foot imprint in the back beside the mondeo logo that's mine .

WTF, do you cycle on sandpaper or something?! I've over 6000km on a pair of Continental Grand Prix and no such sign of wear.

Seriously though, the only thing I can think of making crap of a normal tyre in that time might be if you've had it on a turbo too?

Non of the above folks. Never had any wear like this after such short mileage. But I had to return a similar tyre, schwalb lugano active line as well, after it appeared to look twisted, after only having it for a number of weeks. Bad batch?
