My brake lights stick on regularly, my cab fan makes a ticking noise; the lights behind the blower controls are off.

I'd like to get to the bottom of these items but I wonder how much pulling of hair and gnashing of teeth would be involved. I don't want to wreck the car pulling at the dash but are these things I can diagnose and fix myself. I'm pretty tech savvy for a civilian but mainly pull apart my motorbikes.

The car is the 1.4 90bhp N/A petrol and it has 77k KM's done.

In other news, I have a strange engine noise. I can only describe it as a low turbine type noise and the pitch increases with revs but not the volume. I also reckon there's some low volume ticking going on. I'm kind of assuming it's a bearing chatter and the noise was there before and after I got the timing belt done a couple of months ago. I presume I'd need to enlist the assistance of a grown up for these items but I thought I'd see if there was any thoughts to be had here :)

Let's keep this for what you intend to DIY as you have a thread asking for recommendations for mechs here

All of those minor issues you can do yourself.
By "brake lights stick on" you mean they stay on after you have pressed the brake pedal?

Yes indeed. I don't know which side of the firewall the switch is but all I know is that the brake lights often remain illuminated after releasing the pedal.

Right so the brake light switch is sorted and working fine now. Thanks for the link. I don't know how I wasn't able to find that myself :o

Here's a guide related to the dash lights.

Apparently it's a common failure but the only thing that makes me wonder is the issue of the fuse. It looks like I have to remove the glove box to get to the fuses. I don't have a spare fuse and I don't have replacement bulbs so I reckon I'm just going to order up some LED's and get a fuse and then go at it on a day I have more time than I do now.

I think tackling the fan at the same time will give me the best bang for my buck. It does look like there's a lot of tearing at plastics to get these jobs done.
