I have decided to be offended here if, and only if, Ms. Jenner isn't charging eye-watering money for the use of that image and tagline.

I'm kind of torn, I wish there was a better ambassador for trans people as the Jenner/ Kardashian family are a joke and they make it easier by the way they conduct themselves for people to find humour in what they do. They are shallow, materialist, and have a strange past (didn't Caitlyn kill someone in a car accident). There are many great trans people out there who could represent trans groups better. I'm not against trans people but I don't like Caitlyn as a person and I don't think she is an articulate individual who has well thought out opinions.

What a strange way of putting it. A lot of unfortunate people were involved in road accidents - the clue is in the term - in which people were killed, but it doesn't make them "bad" people.

This is exactly what south park made fun of in a recent episode. Everyone just completely ignores what a horrible person she is, and was before her change, just because they fear the PC police or are desperate for a role model.

I thought it was the mother who was meant to be a weapon....evidently I don't read enough tabloid cack.

Lots of people won't have a clue who the woman on the ad is though so they'll just think it's an odd choice of model.

Yeah she killed someone in a car accident. She was found to be "inattentive" when driving but no charges were pressed, although manslaughter charges were a possibility as late as last month. And as we all know, money plays no role in American justice.

Despite having killed someone in such dubious circumstances, she still decided to press ahead with the Vanity Fair shoot just weeks later, all while Kim Howe's family were still grieving their loss.

    Lovely.

This add is targeted at people thinking of getting some flooring done in their homes.

    That is all.

Won't stop the "offended on someone else's behalf" brigade from revving their engines though, you can be certain of that.

Is the man whose image is used offended by the advert or are people here getting offended on behalf of him?

    I think it's funny.
Y'know, people take things too seriously.
I'd support Caitlyn's sex change, and every trans persons' change but y'know anything and everything is game for a joke.

Everything can be funny so long as it's framed in a relevant context.

And the thing is if you're offended by it, well that's entirely your own issue. I think everything and anything can be....indeed should be made fun of. There shouldn't be any sacred cows. It's simply ludicrous to suggest that certain topics cannot be joked about.
Go have a look at sickipedia and I dare you not to laugh at something that in everyday life you'd be offended by.

Comedy is subjective, but if you can't see the funny side of things then you probably need to go have a **** of do something relaxing

I am a big supporter of LGBT/Trans rights, I don't think this ad is offensive, quite the opposite in fact, if people are getting up in arms over it I think they need to find something better to be doing with themselves....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,383 ✭✭✭✭Birneybau

I pass by there every day, they had something similar with Enda and Michael Martin.

The best thing to do is 'just don't look'. They are blatantly out for some viral marketing and of course all the usual suspects will fall for it.

    Her.ie - You won't believe this advert.

Joe.ie - The craic is mighty with this ad.

    Etc etc...

Well someone needs to check you privilege then.

    no.

If you are white, male, straight or cis then some people consider you to be privileged by birth when compared to others who do not fall in the above categories. These people bestow upon you an obligation to recognise and take account of this privilege in everything you do.

Went for a jog? Recognise that you are privileged to be able to walk and don't brag about it. Had a good job interview? Recognised that you would not have had such a good one if you were black or openly gay. And so on.

As the privilege checker has been outsourced to a private company, that will be 100 Euro per check.
