Over-filling

I recently bought a Lavazza Modo Mio coffee machine. It's been fine until this week, when I started using 'budget' compatible capsules. Now the machine is over-filling the cup, by about half a cup each time.
I did switch off the machine half-way through a pour last week (I'd pushed the capsule in too far).....did I upset the timer or something?
Or could it be that the budget capsules are letting too much water through as there's less coffee in them? (that sounds stupid I know....)
