Civil Service Subsistence Rates - ABROAD

    Hi All,

Anyone have any experience as a company director using civil service overnight subsistence rates particularly abroad?

I understand the rate used in Ireland is €125 but I've found the civil service rates abroad are way higher for example Paris is €292 london is £169 and so on..

Are these rates applicable to legitimate business trips as a company director? I do quite a lot of short trips upto now I've only known of the normal rates but since seeing these I do now see on the revenue site the €125 is classed as "domestic" rate. But they don't seem to list the other rates but many websites have compiled them?

Thoughts? Also don't need the ask my accountant answer as he clearly isn't aware of it if I can use them. Just wondering if anyone has experience of it prior to me looking more into it.

We have used them and they are available to employees and company Directors on overseas business trips. The list is prepared by the Department of Finance. For some reason Revenue does not provide a link to this list. You can contact your local office and they will send you a copy of the current list.

The list is amazingly detailed, different rates for different cities within countries, different rates dependent on time spent frame abroad. Fascinating mindset behind it in a perverse way.

I was quite surprised also at the detail involved..They're kept relatively quiet though. For me it would make a big difference in the expenses battle and maximising them without taking the piss. Everything I do is short 4/5 day trips so I wouldn't be getting into any of the long term posting stuff.

Just became aware of them last year, from an English guy was working with, mentioned theirs and that we had similar. Found it after some searching, effective from 1st October 2014. Very detailed as KlausFlouride said, 91 pages.

PM and can send it on. If of any use to anyone.
