Tax Relief on masters fee

    Hi all, I'm just looking for some insight into claiming tax relief on student fees. I completed a masters in 2012 - 2013 and want to claim the relief back from the revenue.

    I submitted the form already but got called by someone in the office saying that all tax reliefs had already been calculated for both 2012 and 2013 but to put the year 2014 on a new form?! she asked had I been working in 2012 & 2013, I was but only part time and wouldn't have started full time work until the end of 2013.

    can anyone explain why I would need to put 2014 on the form, is it related to when I started working full time?

    if you only worked part time in 2012/2013 possibly you haven't enough or any tax paid. tuition fees are tax relief so must have paid tax before you can claim any back. However if you paid for the masters in 2012/2013 I don't understand how you she said you could claim it back against 2014 tax.

    Yeah, that person was wrong. Of course if one of your parents paid for the course and also paid tax in 2012 and 2013 the relief would be available that way.
