I cant believe these clown s . There on the radio advertising to get your car tested up to 90 days early. To avoid the rush of cars early next year say from Jan to March when most cars were purchased. That's grand but for someone to go in 90 days early they will now only print the disc for a year not a year and 90 days. So there is no real advantage for the motorist.Just to get an earlier booking. I will be changing my booking back to first month of 2016 instead of doing these wan....s a favour. What is it with this country .

You were testing 3 months early rather than 9 months late?

Where did you get this revelation?

If you test not more than 90 days before due date, you will get a disc and cert valid until due date year (or 2 years later).
F.e. if your 2004 car is due 15th January 2016, and you test it on 20th October 2015, you will get a cert and disc valid until 15th January 2017.

Only if you test it more than 90 days beforehand due date, that's volutory early testing, and then you get a cert and disc valid for 1 year (or 2 years depending on vehicle age) from them date of test.
So in example above, it you tested vehicle on 10th October 2015, then you would get cert and dics valid until 10th October 2016.

The 90 day rule is written into law, the NCT can't choose to apply or ignore at will.
    http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/2014/si/322/

90 days is not necessarily equal to 3 months as some months have 31 days.

    It wouldn't make any difference.

That's OK, because it was more than 90 days before due date.
If you held on with testing it until January 2016 you would get a cert valid until March 2017.

Was afraid the car would get taken off her :)
As I understand it, if I test it again tomorrow I'll get a cert for a year.

    Maybe I read it wrong.
My car is due on the 10jan 2016 so I booked for the 23oct 2015 .
AS far as I understand from the alert on their website my car will now only get a disc till 23oct2016.
I thought I was going to get a disc till 10jan2017.

That's correct - if you test it again tomorrow, you will get a cert valid until 13th October 2016 (assuming car is over 10 years old).

    I have a 2006 car where NCT expired on 31st March 2014.
So I'll try to test it in January 2016, to get a valid test until 31st March 2017.
Fact that at the moment of testing (in January 2016) NCT will have been expired by over 21 months, won't matter in regards that car will be awared cert valid for nearly 15 months (12 months + extra time due to early testing).

You read it wrong it seems. 23rd of Oct is within the 90 days so you'll get a cert until 10 Jan 2017 (or 2018 if car less than 10 years old).

I don't think they can be any clearer on their site. Its written in very simple language - mines due feb, it took about 5 seconds of reading to know to wait til mid November.

Btw, the idea of being able to do a test before the 90 day time is to allow for nct if you want to sell a car - having a 2 year nct cert (or one for older cars) would add value to the car.

Agree, its very clearly explained on the nct site, cant understand the confusion.

My understanding is that its to stop the rush in Jan when most cars would be due.

edit: sorry, you said before 90 days, agree with your point in that case.
