I'm probably in the wrong area and apologies in advance..

I've been suffering pain in my lower abdomen for quitems a while now and began to record it in February. . In July the pain got bad and I went to my GP who referred me for an ultrasound (August). . This showed up a cyst on my right ovary. . A week later the pain got worse and I went to A&E where I was prescribed pain medication and a repeat ultrasound was ordered for a months time.. the repeat ultrasound showed that it had doubled in size.. it the meantime I received a letter stating o was on the gyn list.. rang my gp and she is writing to put it as urgent.. I am constantly in pain and am getting no relief.. it is really getting me down..

How long generally is the waiting list to see a gynaecologist?
Or how much would it cost to get the cyst removed privately?

    Thanks in advance

    Have you health insurance?

I was referred publically to a gyn for similar (pain requiring a&e visits). I heard nothing back after 3 months so I asked to be re-referred privately. I hadn't thought to go private initially.

Anyway. Long story short. By the time my public appointment arrived I had seen the gyn, had a course of (unsuccessful) treatment, a second visit, a surgery, a follow up visit with a new treatment plan and had a further follow up visit. All in all it was around 16 months IIRC.

I had health insurance though, so no clue on the costs. Best bet is to ring the hospital you would see the consultant in and ask for pricing. Include all potential options - including lab tests. VHI paid out money for the lab tests I had done on recent biopsies. Also ring other hospitals - shop around. Some may be cheaper. Bed charges vary wildly.

I was in and out in a day, no overnight stay so that impacts price. But you pay for everything.
