    Hi
Any one who knows about BMW 320 D Automatic, can give some idea on those engines and automatic gear box issues.

I am planning to buy one and don't want to spent too much money , would like to buy from 2002 to 2004 or 05 model year.

2002 to 2004 model year , all of them comes with same engines or has any difference in 04 engines?

and i think they come with timing chains, which is very expenscieve for a timing chain change. In general at what miles timing chain starts to become noisy or tends to show slackness?
Any info will be very helpful.
    Thanks
    SKJ

M47 doesn't have the problem that plagued the N47.... Worth a nosey for that timing chain issue as its a good read

Timing chain isn't really an issue with the E46 320d

Remove swirl flaps & make sure the turbo breather filter has been changed regularly and it should be bullet proof enough. Not sure about the gearboxes, but as with all autos just check that it's smooth on low rev shifts and that it doesn't get stuck in gears when driving it hard.
