    Heyo all,

I had by license a good while now, and it's clean. A little too clean. It's been washed more than some of my shirts!

Is there a fast way or swapping this out for a new one without much hardship or do I have to claim it's lost?

I am sure you can say it is damaged and get a replacement for 35 bucks without reporting it lost, but if your address on the license is different to your current address, you can get it replaced/changed for free :)

Did I hear that updating your organ donor preferences requires a new licence?
Good opportunity to look at organ donation too.

You're meant to update your address on your licence when you move. It's free of charge.

You need to go onto ndls.ie and download a form, fill it out and book an appointment to go in (on the website).

You'll need a D401, proof of PPSN and valid proof of address. It's the same €35 whether the licence is damaged or lost but either way you'd still need a Garda declaration.

If all of the crucial info is there, it's in one piece and in good condition (eg the name is clearly readable and the picture is intact as well as the stock number, driver number etc) then the change of address would be free alright but they're fussy about what is considered damaged. I say get the stamp as a precaution and leave the boxes relating to lost/ stolen or change of personal details blank and chance your arm for the free change of personal details.

The only difference is whether or not the licence has the 115 notation- there is no facility to select specific preferences other than that. I'm pretty sure that adding the 115 requires you pay the €35 although it may be worth arguing if organ donation a matter close to your heart (SWIDT).

You don't have to book. You can just drop in. However, it's recommended that you make a booking in order to avoid waiting; those with bookings get priority.

Interesting. My license is in sheet! Barely held together. You can read everything but only just.

Next appointment slot is end of the month :(

I accompanied someone to the NDLS centre in Cork on Saturday morning, as it happens. No appointment, so we were prepared for a long wait. However, they have these new machines by the entrance where you tap in your name and one or two basic pieces of information, and it issues you an appointment number. We were called and sorted out about 25 minutes later, out the door. Having said that it was a quiet sort of morning in there, but I was almost impressed.

I was in the centre in CityWest last week, had booked a month in advance. There were 4 desks open and only 4 people when I arrived. This was at 0930 on a Thursday. Took me 10 minutes once I was called.
