    Hi Gents,

Looking to change the main family car.. And wanted some opinions on a couple of candidates..

    Some background..
Don’t need 7 seats, but occasionally it would be useful.
Road tax isn’t an issue for me, I already pay top rate on my car and I've acclimatised myself to it : )
Would rather a car I like and swallow the tax, than drive a 1.5 diesel qashqui or similar for cheap tax.
The car will be primarily driven by her indoors during the week, but also at the weekend when I tend to be behind the wheel.
Current car is a 2.0 petrol Sportage 2006, with lovely spec etc but have had it quite a while..
Diesel is the preference in this one as I will probably be driving it to the Algarve next year at least once..
Year doesn’t bother me so much, I drive a 2002 myself.

    Potential candidates..
2008 Citroen C-Crosser. 7 seater, Exclusive (leather etc) This is the most likely candidate..
    100,000 miles..
2.2 Diesel with the PSA Direct injection diesel engine.
Not so many around and not a lot about them on the web as a result..
Seem like a decent engine, and I do like a citroen to drive..
Cheapest of the three options, newer than the other two and not so common.

    2006 XC90 D5 2.2 Diesel.
    Nice car, usual XC90 spec.
    130,000 miles.
I have heard a few things about problems on higher mileage XC90’s but I cant recall what it was and I don’t know nayone who owns one.
Love the look of them, but should I steer clear?

    Anything to be wary of?

And then because I tend do the driving at the weekend, and want something that appeals to me too, a bit of a wild card.

2005 Range Rover Vogue 3.0 Diesel.
    130,000ish
Not much to say, Vogue. Rangey and good history.
But I cant help but think it would end up breaking my heart. Air suspension etc..
I have always wanted one, so having this as our main vehicle appeals. Would certainly make ferrying the kids around at the weekend less painful..
But am I nuts? Should I forget it and move on…
    Are they problematic?

Had 2 Kias myself, sorentos. I expect you are also used to a certain level of reliability as you had a sportage..

Mate had a Range Rover, fantastic car in so many ways but so unreliable that his wife was getting jealous of the receptionist in the garage where he bought it - expect to get to know all of them on a first name basis if you buy one, especially with 130,000ish.

There would be a gulf in difference of running costs between the Citroen and the other two. The Citroen is a rebadged Mitsubishi Outlander that never sold well and is not even in the same market segment as the XC90 or RR which are premium SUVs. Parts, servicing, mpg would all be alot higher on the XC90 and especially the Range Rover. The XC90 would probably be more reliable than the Range Rover though.
