    Hi all,

Quick question which I can't seem to find an answer to online. I'm heading to the UK at the weekend on the ferry and can't find my passport. I've been told by a pal that my driving license will suffice but I can't see definitive confirmation online.

This indicates my driving license might suffice but doesn't say definitively - http://www.irishferries.com/ie-en/faq/passports-identification

Anyone got a link to something definitive which will allow me to sleep tonight?

    Yup, you'll be fine.

Non-Passport photo IS is ok for almost everything except Ryanair.

I can't recall ever being asked for any kind of ID on the ferry to the UK. I've always driven. I don't know if it's different for foot passengers.

The link you posted gives a good summary of the situation.

The ferry companies themselves do not look for any documentation, by law they have to record the names of all passengers boarding but beyond that they do not require specific ID for purchase or check-in.

What documentation you need to have depends on your nationality as per immigration rules. It is not true that there is no immigration at the ports, spot checks are made on both sides but it does seem to be rather infrequent at present.
