Minor Collision - Insurance Question

    Hello,

I had a very minor collision with a biker yesterday. Basically, the biker cut across me as i was turning right, it was very low speed. Tiny scratch to my car and none I could see to the biker, although he claimed there was. We exchanged numbers and he said he would call me. I haven't heard anything back since, but I'm wondering, should I inform my insurance company anyway? the damage to my car is minimal, but as a precaution is it better to inform them, but I don't want it to have a negative effect of my policy.

    Any thoughts? Thanks.

The biker traveled in between the two lanes of cars and cut across me as I was turning in. he was at fault in my opinion. No Garda called, damage was as i said very minor. The biker was driving in the middle of two lanes between cars and overtook me as I wasn't going fast and as I turned we met, at low speed.

The biker was in the flow of traffic and didn't cut across you, you cut the biker off. Unless you can get independent witnesses to say the biker was speeding or otherwise riding recklessly it's your fault as it's legal in this country to filter.

Even in between both lanes? I would have thought that was dangerous. If the biker intended to turn right, should he not be in the right lane, or passing along my right hand side, rather than in between to lanes of moving traffic?

There's a difference between dangerous and illegal. When on a bike everything is dangerous so most riders try to choose the least dangerous option, then again some are morons and don't. But still doesn't make riding between lanes of traffic illegal, you just need to be aware that other road users will swing across in front of you and ride accordingly.

According to your 2nd post they where passing you on your right side. They could have been going straight on or turning right, or maybe even left, I don't know. Depending on the road ridding down the outside of traffic can be more dangerous than through it.

    Inform your insurance company immediately.

In nearly every case I've ever seen involving an impact between a car and a motor cyclist or bike rider the driver of the car is invariably held accountable. The duty of care is nearly always deemed to be with the CSR driver despite some 2 wheeled travellers being total lunatics on the road.

I wouldn't take too much notice of opinions on here, you were there, they weren't.

I'd tell the insurance Co as a matter of course, you may never hear a thing if the bike and rider weren't damaged.
