    Hi,

I am on the brink of being accepted for a new job, My 2nd interview went very well, even the managing director said it to me at the end, I have done the psychometric, personality and numerical online tests and they've been successful.

But now all the Hr Manager needs now is an updated number for my former Manager. The trouble is the company went bust and I have no personal info for him. I have provided other referees but they are not in the same industry sector.

    What should I do?

Anyone want an Acting job for a reward? It would be a big plus if your English, but Irish will do too.

    Just find him on LinkedIn.

Yep that would be the best option

Find him on Facebook, via mutual friends, if you have no luck on Linkedin.

Get a real life pal to do it. What you're asking is best done with you in the room on speakerphone holding a pen and paper in case of awkward questions.

    Hi, good thinking.

But ideally they should have a British accent.

I'm not asking for much am I. Lol

It's frustrating how its just clinching on this referee.

Wonder what the chances of the Hr manager just going with the referees that are not specific to this job.

Just tell them that the company is gone bust. If they find out you've given a false reference you won't be in the job long.

    Hi, yes good point.

I have told them i went bust. The annoying thing about it is that the number was working a month ago as it was used by another employer that I subsequently was offered the job, but this job is better.

The fact that the company is dissolved is irrelevant. It's the former manager that they want to speak to, not the company. And if it's a very specific industry niche that they're in, then trying to fake it might not be a good idea - the chances that you new company knows something about the old manager are quite high, and the fake would come out in the interview (eg chit-chat about college or suchlike).

If the obvious ways of finding him aren't working, then you need to try the on-obvious ones. Try all your former colleagues. And other business or contacts that might have kept in touch with the manager.

Sounds like they're trying to stay hidden, or they've fallen off the side of the earth. Did the person have any of their own capital invested in the company?

Just an update that I have been offered this job and a starting date to begin etc, provided I get updated contact details for my referee down the line.

This is such good news as I was really anxious about it, but just wondering what if I can't get the updated contact details and I've been working in my new job a couple of weeks/months etc??

    Congratulations, delighted it worked out.

If you can't get the details then there's not much that you can do about it.
All you can do is work as hard as you can and show them how good you are.
If you perform well at the job I can't see them firing you a month or two down the line, due to a lack of reference from a former job.

Yup, digging the guy up will probably be easier with the pressure off. Most of us leave online traces and have out of date Facebook security. A little lurking and stalking of friends of friends on social media might garner results.

Depends on how important they consider the reference.

They could let you go if you don't provide it

have you contact details for any former colleagues?
