Bit of a buzz

I think I saw a buzzard Hawk in cruise mode today... He barely flapped a wing in the two minutes I had in my binoculars. He was a good way away, and even with binoculars I could barely make his underside markings, which I cross referenced on birdwatch Ireland... He also made a good few loud shrieks.

It was in South co Cavan. I'm in the location occasionally... Is it worth keeping a log of these sightings?

They are very common in Cavan Monaghan and Louth nowadays.

Yeah they're quite common in the east, less so west of the Shannon where I live unfortunately! They are here, but you'd go most days without seeing them.

Jaysus I can't go a day without seeing one and at least a kestrel or sprawk aswell. Plenty of bops around here lately which is great to see.
There was a buzzard feeding on the road last week. He was picking on a road kill hedgehog that had been moved to the side of the path and would hardly budge when cars went by. He was however been closely watched by a cat bout 20 yards away

Would a cat take a buzzard? It has to be a big cat I suppose?

It'd have to be a suprise attack but it wouldn't be a norm on it's menu.
A cat will kill most birds. Quick bite to the neck and bird is gone so it'd be able to handle a buzzard but buzzards are well to aware of what's going on.
I'd say it was more waiting it's time till the buzzard was gone so it could feed off the hedgehog
