Non-Contributory Pension Entitlements

    Hi

My Great Aunt's husband is a retired Civil Servant on a Pension of about €22K pa. She never worked in Ireland and has a very small pension from England. She is always complaining that he won't let her apply to get her own pension here as he doesn't want to have to show the government his bank details, savings etc.

Basically just wondering if she may have any entitlements? I looked at the DSP website but I find it a bit confusing.

Does anyone know where I could find a formula to calculate whether she has any entitlement? She is 73 and could do with the income.

    Thanks
    B

You could check with Citizens Information but from the limited info posted I think it unlikely she will get a non contributory pension considering the maximum pension for a married couple is around €19k and as her husband is already over that income even without her small pension then they would seem to be over the limit for a non contributory.

Does he have a large sum of illegal money he can't explain or something? Can't see the logic behind this statement. I couldn't give a rats ass if the government knew my bank details

It's fairly common amongst the elderly to be cagey about savings when it comes to applying for allowances

Thanks for the replies. I wouldn't say he has "illegal money" - just suspicious of others knowing his business.

It does look like she wouldn't get anything alright.
