Big fan of these brands , this was announced some time ago and they are looking for staff on their website. Just curious to know where its going to be ? , ex Bill Cullen Airside premises or on their existing site ? Jaguar in particular needs to be promoted more here , Spirit are only half decent Jag.dealer here and even then not a great selection of vehicles new / used.

Joe Duffy also announced last year that they were building new Porsche dealership , assume its on Porsches instructions as wouldn't have thought it can be justified going by sales figures here.

Did they not already have a Land Rover place at Airside?

They do. It's behind Winsdor Airside and beside Citroen Dublin.

They've bought the old Bill Cullen site and are also planning to put in Bentley to the best of my knowledge.

Kia is going to go into the old Landrover showroom I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 734 ✭✭✭bs2014

Was over that way yesterday and a pop up Kia showroom is down in Bills old place. I think it is the old valeting hut that has been converted to a temp showroom. I assume that Bills dealership would be converted to a big state of the art Kia showroom but perhaps not?

cant see them taking on Bentley , maybe 10 years ago but not now and Hursts would go mad after investing in premises. I think they should have turned Bill cullens place into a Mercedes garage , great location for wealthy people of north east Dublin . Joe Duffys already sell Audis and jags and that doesn't effect their BMW garage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 734 ✭✭✭bs2014

Although Merc sell more, Id say theres better opportunity for growth and volume/ without cannibalising existing sales or having close competitors for a state of the art Jag/Land Rover dealership. Jag new XE is a class car and Land Rover are selling droves of Discovery and the new Freelander. Kia might fit nicer up in where in HB dennis currently is.

Who owns HB Dennis? Is it Joe Duffy Motors?

Who owns Opel Airside? Is it Joe Duffy Motors?

Joe Duffy Motors own Mc Allisters VW in Airside.

Joe Duffy Motors bought Bill Cullen's premises in Airside back in 2012. The CEO of Joe Duffy Motors in a newspaper interview at the time said they would not open the premises/showrooms until they had a manufacturer onboard. Maybe they held out for the highest grant/loan from a manufacturer. They could have moved VW into the premises ages ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,697 ✭✭✭goochy

yes joe duffy own. the vw showroom is grand as it is. they should have got hyundai as barrables location isnt great. think windsor own the opel garage ??

i still think merc. would be good and very profitable

Is that Michael Barrable the rally-driver, by any chance?

This would be great if/when it happens.

I took my ex Volvo to HB Dennis for a new key and received a software update & valet FOC. The engineer also invited me in to explain what was going on, explain the delay and other stuff.

I've never received anything close to that kind of service from Spirit Jaguar...ever.

I just called them for a part today (a Friday afternoon), explained that i may not be able to get down to Sandyford before they closed.
They couldn't take a credit card over the phone (if i got someone to collect the part in time)...apparently management frowns on this.
They couldn't drop it off to their showroom down the road (so that i could collect & pay on a Saturday...parts is closed on weekends).
They almost never answer the phone first time.
They're just generally the antithesis of helpful.

As it is, i've decided to wait and collect the part when i'm in Belfast next week...cheaper too!

I need the new XF when it's available here, but i couldn't possibly deal with them. Dublin needs a new Jaguar dealership.

As for Joe Duffy, i've been in to JD BMW several times for service or replacement parts, looking at new vehicle options etc. and received good service, everyone polite and you're taken care of from the moment you walk in.

If it was JD, HB Dennis etc. opening a new Jaguar dealership, then happy days as far as i am concerned!

AS far as i know Jaguar and land Rover are going into the old Bill Cullen premises and Volvo will stay where it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 207 ✭✭mickmmc

The CEO of Joe Duffy Motors has confirmed that Jaguar and Landrover will relocate to the former Bill Cullen Airside premises in the first half of 2016 (source Irish Times 27/11).

Joe Duffy Kia Airside will relocate to the former Landrover premises in Airside.

No franchise has been lined up yet for the former PJ O'Hea Opel premises in Cork.

My parents bought a Rover 600 from HB Dennis years ago. Mint 2 year old car and extremely good to deal with. Circa 1997/8 I'm talking about here. Still...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,697 ✭✭✭goochy

that was before Joe Duffy took over , used to work for them in New st. around that time and didn't like how they ran things - one of the Dennis's whose name begins with a J was not very likeable and didn't come across as great at job - wasn't surprised they couldn't survive recession - bad choice of franchises in Airside when they moved there.

Joe duffy were supposed to be opening new Porsche place also, wonder if that's going ahead still ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 207 ✭✭mickmmc

The CEO did not mention anything about a Porsche franchise.

The CEO stated that they are looking for a franchise in Cork for the former PJ O' Hea premises, which they purchased in November 2014.

It will be interesting to see what franchise they will get in Cork.

The other development in 2016 is mentioned above (Jaguar/Landrover franchise in Bill Cullen's premises in Airside.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,697 ✭✭✭goochy

cant see what franchise could go into that place in cork , mazda not big enough brand and already in Midleton.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 734 ✭✭✭bs2014

When did Joe duffy loose the SEAT franchise? I see they only remain as an aftersales dealer. I guess their South dublin branch will remain a sole Porsche dealer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,697 ✭✭✭goochy

Good to see , not a good seat dealer - Porsche and Seat dont go well together.
Imagine MSL Grange will replace VW with Seat. Though surprised so many Seat dealers opening , their range is quite limited.

Rumour in the industry was that MSL VW were on the way out so opting for SEAT could be an option. They haven't really opened many new when you consider Barrables and Joe Duffy are no longer in Dublin, and heard from a reliable source Cranley are going....major reshuffle in the capital it would seem.

Wait, Joe Duffy's owns HB Dennis? Since when?

But Mark Dennis runs HB Dennis leasing. Does that mean Mark works for Duffy's?

Hb dennis motors went into liquidation a few yrs ago and joe duffy bought it. However hb dennis leasing must have been separate company so still exists so theres two different hb dennis named garages beside each other !! Strange and confusing. I found mark dennis sound , i think michelle hanlon who worked at dennis's when i was there works with mark as does peter dennis. Dont know about john dennis

Joe Duffy Motors has purchased VW Karmann on the M50 according to today's Irish Independent.

Joe Duffy Motors have really grown their business in the last few years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 734 ✭✭✭bs2014

Interesting move, I would imagine Karmann and McAllisters are quite close to each other. Rumour was awhile back that Karmann were only temporarily there and they were due to build a new showroom over behind Joe Duffy Bmw, wonder will this now go ahead under Joe Duffy....be interesting to watch and see

It'll be the only dealer in the flat of the City, the last 10/15 years saw them all relocate/close.

Haven't been to airside for quite a while , has hb dennis's new jaguar and land rover place opened yet ?

Construction has started with all the glass taken out and hoarding surrounding the sitewas talking to anguy in HB Dennis..KIA going to move in with Volvo whilst LandRover move down to new premises.

I would of thought that VOLVO would want to be stand alone as that's the way most of the Manufacturers are going anyway...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,697 ✭✭✭goochy

Volvo sales not great , dealer network is poor which could be part of reason. Only x2 dealers in Dublin and very few if any stand-alone dealerships.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,697 ✭✭✭goochy

Passed by the site over weekend , they are not far off building a totally new building thought they were just going to make a few alterations to existing building . So you could say they really only bought the site.

noticed a sign for Airside Seat , which seems to be operated by the ford dealer / Ashley motors - is it on the Airside Ford site or elsewhere in Airside ?

The Seat garage is located on the opposite side of the road to Barrables Hyundai dealership. It is not a great location.
I don't know who has the Seat dealership.

Re HB Dennis new premises: the steel structure is intact. The showroom glass has been removed and the showroom gutted internally. The workshop and other departments have not been touched. It is far from a total demolition; only the front of the building/showroom is being rebuilt with the steel beams and roof beams still in place.

We went shopping for a new Passat in Commons Rooad, in Navan, now owned by Joe duffy group.
What a change, and all for the worst. All the old staff gone, and a terrible trade in price. I was quizzed on the mileage, why was it so low? And then after all the claptrap sales bluster, they offer me a price 20% less than what I was offered elsewhere only 2 hours before in another main dealer.
The consolidation of garages in the Greater Dublin area is very bad news for consumers. Lack of competition means either higher retail prices or more likely, much lower trade in prices. When a bunch of investors decide to buy up dealerships, then someone has to pay for it, and that will be the Punter

Well the beauty of buying a new car is that you can buy it anywhere and the warranty applies throughout the network.

There are lots of dealers about outside Dublin who would look favourably on a low mileage trade in.

yes if you want a great deal on a VW . try Al Hayes in Portumna - galway / offaly border and then bring back to Commons Road for any warranty work .!

Guy in work travelled from limerick to buy from them and they sell cars nationwide.

Wherever you go, it all depends who you hit on the day and what the salesman is happy to take as a trade in.

I found Pierce in Tipperary good to deal with too.

I get completely the turnoff from the big dealers and big overheads though. They have perfected the art of making you feel like you are wasting their time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,697 ✭✭✭goochy

he tried Pierse but no one could touch Al Hayes , hes sells cars to every part of the country - don't know how he does the deals as he has loads of used cars.
guy in work goes back to him for servicing too .

My brother bought a new transporter 3 years ago in a straight deal from al. Got a good deal but it went back several times for warranty work and it was fight to say the least.
He went in to order a new van, it was a special order ie bigger than usual payload etc, and Al pretty much refused. If you want to buy a van you buy what's in stock, I ain't ordering what you want was his tack. He went to frank Keane and got to order what he wanted with options.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 734 ✭✭✭bs2014

If its outright price your after, Al Hayes will not be beat on price, stacks them high and sells them cheap. I've heard of him turning over new golfs on only like a little over 100e margins. But do be prepared for no red carpet or frills and lets just say "a unique" approach to customer service as alluded to above.

He has just won an award for customer service .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 336 ✭✭FrontDoor

The OP seems to have a fresh, low mileage car. If its any way desireable, he'll get a similar deal on a VW from most of the family owned setups around.

Newmarket, Western Garages, Pierce, etc, will all be pretty close I'd imagine.

If I was in his shoes, I'd take a day and get around to a few of them and see what happens.

I'm not familiar with them in Leinster.

Wedid the deal with Bradys of Arva. Have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Proper salesman, who could do the deal there and then, he knew our car was a genuine, low mileage good deal. He told us straight away he would have no difficulty shifting it. I dont know yet what the aftercare will be like, but he rang me the other night, about 8pm, we got the car at the start of July, just to see were we happy with it, and to thank us for the custom. Nothing hidden, no trying to get us to give the right answers if we get the customer care survey on the phone to us, just a straight forward good saleman, trying to make sure we come back again

Have dealt with Bradys myself, in the middle of nowhere lol but they are very very down to earth people who "genuinely" care....very humble to deal with....no flash or clinicalness but yet highly professional

The builders are making progress on Bill Cullen's old premises in Airside. There will be 2 showrooms in the redesigned building; Joe Duffy Landrover on one side and Joe Duffy Jaguar on the other side (from pictures on the hoarding).

Construction work has started on the existing Jaguar/Landrover/Volvo building in Airside. Joe Duffy Kia and Joe Duffy Volvo will move into the renovated showrooms.

This must be nearly finished now ? Sad to see the hb dennis name go ( aside from that place selling ex lease cars ) though I did work for dennis's in New street and wasn't impressed with their way of doing things
