    Hi,

I would like to get a travel book for Spain. I normally get the Lonely Planet range, but I recently seen a Rough Guide book which ‘looked’ better.

Are there any real differences between these and/or which of the two is the better in terms of information?

    Thanks.

Depends what you're looking for. I often find the Country ones are just too broad and not specific enough for the areas i'm interested in. What I usually do is look for the most recently published. Frommers can also do good guides. Are you interested in a region/city or just want the book and then figure out where you want to go?

I'd go to my local library and pick one up there and then focus on a region/city and buy a city/regional guide.

I hope to spend over a month travelling across Spain - missing out the northern region due to the weather at this time of year.

I have about 20 Rough Guides and maybe 10 Lonely Planets. They have a different layout so it's a matter of which you prefer. I have the Rough Guide to Spain and it's excellent. Some very interesting off the beaten track suggestions.

I've looked in a shop at the GR and LP again. The maps are terrible in the LP. For example, in Toledo the bus station and train station are off the map, yet discussed in the transport section.
In terms of information, the LP seems to be ahead for pointing out useful information.

    It's a tough one. :(
