VW Tiguan Airbag Squib gone in new car

We've a VW Tiguan (2012) in for service
Just been told it needs a new airbag squib
Over 500 euro for the part.
Guy said he's never seen one go before in a new ish car.
Should this be something VW should be covering as it's an inherent safety issue?

Two years.
We bought it almost three years ago

Yeah
A big defect with the front suspension last time but that was covered

You could try and see if VW Ireland might cover it, or some of it through goodwill. Sometimes this works.
I'd imagine they're busy at the minute though.

Maybe get a second opinion on it before committing to buying a new squib

What??? €500 for a squib (aka clockspring)?????

Pure rip -off.

Buy a compatible one and get an indy mechanic to install. These are cheap aprts.
