Following the governments decision to order a quantity of modular homes to tackle the housing crisis is this a quick fix rather than go with the longer term solution and go with a more traditional build. Just wondering what people's thoughts are.

If I'm on the brink of starvation id prefer an immediate energy sachet than a slow cooked stew.

    I don't know.....
I'm on the fence with it tbh as I'm not sure what the long term use for them would be. They will be initially be temporary units but with this government they will still be here and in use when I'm retired in 30 years!

From stories yesterday they will be purchased for 100 grand a piece, someone is going to make a serious profit!

while a great idea, i'm willing to bet someone is going to see a way to make a quick buck and ride this system for all it's worth and the govt dept responsible is only going to 'see' all of this long after the fact.

You mean fine Gaels best mate Denis o Brien, who owns Roankabin and who gave the government a demonstration last week?

I'm sure they won't get the contract will they?

I have long believed that our goverment , Labour ministers and all , are here to serve only the better off in our society.
We will not see refugee settlements or modular housing in Foxrock or Montenotte.
If some ministers pal can make a pile out of modular houses it will happen and no other consideration will be counted.
Sure we will here reassurances about short term solution while working on long term.
As syd says the needy are drowning and they will clutch the straw.
But I foresee future problems will deprevation , prostitution and sky high vlolent crime against the person rates to be associated with modular housing. And we all know the neighbourhoods they will be located in.

With this kind of spend, they will have to go down the route of a competitive tendering process as per EU Procurement rules. This will have to be published in OJEU and on E-Tenders.

Yes. Our future slums will be procured in full observence of all EU tendering procedures. This will give a veneer of respectability to this centuries "Ballymuns".

Depends on how they are allocating the spend it's capital spend so the threshold for that is 5.1 million

...read the small print on those, usually goes something like this: "the tenderer is not bound to accept the lowest or any tender "

This means they can pick the dearest one if they wish, if they 'feel' it meets the requirements better.

Topical balm to sooth the concience of those who do not fall through the cracks.
How can you feel good about yourself without an underclass to look down on ?

You may well be too dear. For example if 100 marks are for cost pretty much price as high as you want. But if it's something like 500-700 marks no amount of fluff text in the response is going to matter if you are most expensive.

It's all about the weighting of the marks and in fairness usually the tenders tell you exactly how to win
