Destination for a weekend?

I am considering going out of Ireland for a weekend in November, with my girlfriend, flying out on Friday evening and coming back on Sunday. Yeah, not great could use more days but it's literally all we've got.

Anyways I'm just looking for suggestions in terms of a destination, Something a young couple can enjoy (doesn't have to be romantic) for a day or two. We're not the party kind by the way. I suppose the flights have to be quite frequent to cater to our schedule. We've already been to London though if there's anything interesting there to do I could consider going again.

At the moment I'm thinking of Madrid, but I'm not quite certain what we could do there with that short a time.

If you can get cheap flights Budapest is well worth a visit

I found it cheap and there was lots to do and I was there 3 days

Also depending on where your based why not stay in Ireland?
Try up north like Belfast or Derry for example

Edinburgh cheap regular fly flights lovely city.
Never being to Brussels but supposed to be nice and short flight.
From what I gather you want a flight less than or around and hour.
Sterling I a killer at the minute though

+1 on Edinburgh. Lots to do and see in the city centre, the Zoo, whisky tours and general up the Highlands, to Loch Lomond etc.. Nice city for a short break.

Ah those are some good suggestions, thank you :)

I'll do some research but I suppose it may come down to what the flight schedule is.

If it's the end of November, many of the Christmas Markets around Europe start on the last weekend in Nov.
    Check Berlin perhaps?
Great city, and added bonus of the markets!
Accom and flights will probably be that bit higher because of them, but they are so worth doing at some point.

Madrid is an excellent choice as the flight times are usually good direct from Dublin for a weekend. I usually save the cost of a night of hotel and go from Saturday very early morning (like 6:30am) and return Sunday late night.

Madrid airport is easy as you can take the metro direct from the airport to the city. There is plenty to keep you busy, however you can easily fit in a quick day trip to Toledo (or Segovia) which is a fascinating historic city.

Search for blog posts about a weekend city break in Madrid (or any other city suggested like Lisbon, Brussels, Munich, or Nice) or pick up a travel guidebook (Lonely Planet, Top 10) if that helps you imagine things to do over a weekend holiday.

Bremen? short flight and city centre is only 15 minutes on tram from airport so you wont spend most of your time away travelling. We went last year for 2 nights for xmas market, I thought it was lovely, especially down by the river after dark. Its not a big market so it suited me as it was the atmosphere I went for. We stayed at Swisotel in city centre. Lovely hotel and great breakfast. Theres big tram stop outside it. the hotel give free tram passes if you ask so you only have to pay for transport one first day from airport.

    Hi
I read your post about a weekend break in November. I have a suggestion here. I have been to Paris in November and its lovely at that time of year. All the Christmas lights are up already and theres already a real Christmas buzz around the place. You can also go and visit the Eiffiel Tower, the Lurve, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Arc De Tropime and many art galleries around the place. For shopping Gallerie Layfette is definitely a must as you get great stuff there. When in the Lurve you can see the painting of the Mona Lisa and they also sell copies of the painting to bring home. The best hotels to stay in are in the Opera District. I heard that the three star Opera Cadet Hotel is briliant and its only an hour and a quarter flight with Aer Lingus to Charles De Gaulle Airport and its a beautiful flight by the way. I would highly recommend it and its perfect for couples.

Bath, Get flights to Bristol about an hour on a bus. Loads of flights with Aer Lingus and Ryanair.
