Waterproofing Bathrooms - Concrete build

    Hi all,

To do or not to do.

We're a new build and our internal plastering is being completed. We've brick internal walls, concrete floor upstairs, no timber joists or stud walls, UFH upstairs and down.

We've gotten a quote to get the walls of our shower enclosures upstairs, and a wet room downstairs (fibreglass) waterproofed but are now wondering if there is a need to do this given its all concrete.

So my query is, given our construction material, to waterproof or not, and if we should, is the fibreglass waterproofing option over the top and would a paint on waterproof sealant option do us?

Thanks for taking the time to read and any advice is very welcome.

Paint the walls with SBR that should seal them up for under €100

Will the SBR accept tile adhesive Hex?

No, don't use a neat SBR. In a slurry form on a concrete background it will be ok, but may not be great with tile adhesive. I would recommend Liquid Vapour Membrane from Parex. It is SBR based, but it is designed for this application, and its flexible.

Spoke with the sika rep yesterday and he confirmed what safe hands said. It's not suitable for tiles. They have another product think it's Sika 1K that's suitable for tanking €75 and it covers 8m2 painted on in two coats.
