Probably early bird tickets, would be shocked if it was a band announcement.

Unless they announce Maiden, who are due to start their european tour around that time.

That could happen. I think Maiden are nailed on, and looking like Black Sabbath too.

Ya early birds on sale Friday was it no thanks I'd rather save £10 and know whos playing. In 2013 the headliners were known by end of September but it's usually end of November. Reckon Maiden be announced myself.

Jesus Maiden , Black Sabbath? is this 1970/80/90/00? FFS . The Drifters will headline the Bing Crosby stage.

Maiden have been announced for a few fests alright, same as Sabbath. Assume it'll be one of those bands!

Iron Maiden didn't release their first album till 1980 and couldn't have headlined for the majority of the 90's same goes for Sabbath but you could include the 80's too for them too :pac:

    never would of guessed lol.

seeing motley crue in manchester in november so this will sadly end my 'concert bucket list' although would love to see Black Sabbath, Aerosmith and Van Halen but cant see the latter 2 playing Ireland or the UK and have nobody to go with to see sabbath in the uk unless they play Dublin or Belfast again

anyway can deff see an Iron Maiden Dublin date

DL is billed as being their only UK show of 2016 although I'm fairly sure they said that in 2013 too but then when the festival was over and done they announced 2 London shows.

Ed Force one landing in East Midlands too :D

Apparently other headliners coming this week. Assume black sabbath then bring me the horizon will get it too.

Doubt they've Sabbath now would that not be silly as the international audience would surely head to Graspop with them having those 2 and tickets about €100 euro cheaper.

Hellfest I imagine don't have Maiden as there is a DL France this year.

Maiden was an obvious one. I would have preferred if they also announced some of the other bands for the Sunday in the same way that they did last year but oh well. I can see Black Sabbath and Rammstein being announced as the other headliners.

Unbeleivably poor from Copping and Live Nation, same headliners every 3yrs or so, no wonder i don't go to Donignton anymore.

Look at the Rock/Metal bands (capable of headlining) who have never headlined there :-

Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Rolling Stones, Van Halen

Now i come to think of bands who have not headlined there's a real lack of headlining material

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭Reiketsu

Foo Fighters turned it down in 2008 apparently and Pearl Jam have also turned it down. Green Day are another one that said no. There are still the options but are maybe seen as a gamble. People are saying BMTH should headline this year. I might be out of touch with the kids but surely that's a stretch? I know their latest album has done very well but I can't see headline at all...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,990 ✭✭✭✭Lithium93_

I think festival's rely on the older bands to headline because there really is no new band/bands stepping up to the plate, i mean rock/metal is at a crucial juncture, the older bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and the rest of the old war horses have what another decade or more, or less in Black Sabbath's case, before they decide to ride off into the sunset..Someone has to step up, fair enough A7X grabbed their chance in 2014, but they aren't everybody's cup of tea.

So Andy Copping & Live Nation are really gonna have to pull their fingers out in the next few years and find some newer bands to take the mantle from the old guard and keep the flag flying high..

Pearl Jam and Foos have apparently turned it down in the past few years. The festival needs a band who can guarantee huge sales, Maiden fit the bill and it's a new album tour.

There is the inevitable problem of bands not being big enough to step up, but biffy and a7x have done it, and there may be a new one this year.

I do think Sabbath will sub, read rumours of a Richie Blackmore set as support too.

Totally agree off the back of their last record on the studio recording at least I can somewhat understand their new album haven't heard much of but that "Throne" song could've been done by Linkin Park but maybe that's what their aiming for, thing is they highly rely on those prerecorded vocals which to me is not something you'd associate with a headline act.

There's been talk of the original line up getting back together so maybe that. Who even knows, rumours everywhere :P

6, maybe 7 or 8 dependant, headline size bands. Or even, every band there has headlined or gone very high up the UK bill, I'd be shocked!

Download UK and Paris will be sharing bands but they won't be all the same. Like Reading and Leeds. There's also less bands playing in 2016 and longer sets. Wonder if they've splurged the cash on some serious headliners and subs :P. Anyway, all rumours. Just thought I'd share :)

Maiden and the original guns n roses would be savage in fairness , saw um in slane about 75 years ago and they were brilliant ! Now throw in slayer and exedos and i will retire from gigs happy as a pig in sh1t :D

Can say now, the original Guns N' Roses won't be at Download this year..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,450 ✭✭✭Wrongway1985

Saturday usually the main daytripper day Maiden Muse Metallica the last few years maybe a curveball a big hitter they haven't had before, Foos?

    I'd be inclined to agree.

Wrongway - Won't be Foos, Andy Copping already ruled them out on Twitter :(

I think its fake because of the difference in time between the tweet and screenshot and not one retweet etc but the Download Facebook page has been deleting it.

    Sabbath confirmed :)

Sorry if I came across as attacking. But yeah, they won't all be the same. Rammstein world has them as playing Pinkpop the Saturday...will they do 3 fests in 3 nights?

Two out of the 3 known anyway, I think Deftones will be announced as a sub, maybe before Maiden.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭Reiketsu

Didn't feel that way at all :). See the Rammstein dates aren't officially confirmed and I read earlier they were still in negotiations about Pinkpop. Three nights in a row would be some ask but if they have two setups then maybe.

Guess it won't be long to wait. I saw the ringrocker rumour thing that didn't mention them for UK Download, but are on for Paris. Also, Kerrand mentioned something about interviewing bands this week, which included BMTH, Biffy, A7x. I'd love it, but be equally disappointed, if Biffy played (cos I couldn't go).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭Reiketsu

They are only interviewing the headliners as far as I know which is why tomorrow's announcement is at 8am. Will soon find out for sure :D.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,656 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Definitely didn't see Rammstein's name up there then.

Black Sabbath confirmed as Saturdays headliners

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,450 ✭✭✭Wrongway1985

So we're predicting it is too predictable and Rammstein are indeed the final headliner?

That's three huge headliners, no wonder there are fewer bands.

I'd be tempted to do a Friday day trip for Rammstein :)

Hope this means longer sets for bands. Don't mind checking out loads of bands but watching a band with a set of 20 minutes makes no sense to me!!

Ya Testament played a blistering set this year like but fecked off after 6 songs as they only had a half hour.

There is only so many hours in the day and DL is restricted with the 11pm curfew. Where as bands can go till 3 in the mainland EU so set times can always be more reasonable.

Also the tent stages are terrible they are smaller than most festivals when they have to cater to a potentially bigger crowd, grand for checking out an up n comer or unknown gem of an act but any sort of name and you're wasting your time.

    No Van Halen :(

Hopefully we get a Irish Rammstein show

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,450 ✭✭✭Wrongway1985

    No Van Halen :(

Unfortunately they wouldn't even be considered to headline. If the likes of Whitesnake and Priest aren't headlining no chance of them they must be fobbin off promoters this side of the world for 20 years too despite actively touring the US.

Foos - ching ching bigger elsewhere

Pearl Jam - Aren't keen on festivals since the incident at Roskilde they do some but when they do it's usually a small run of festival dates.
