Hey, hoping someone can help me. I have just got a job in Elm Park on Merrion Road but can't seem to find a regular bus service that goes from Ranelagh. If anyone had any advice it would be much appreciated? Thanks!

It probably wouldn't be to far a walk

Neither point are a million miles away from Dublin Bus route 18.

    Either:
    1) Walk to Morehampton Road, and then take the 46a or 145 to RTE, and then walk down Nutley Lane; or

    2) Take the 18 to Ballsbridge and then 4 or 7 to Elm Park

If you don't have a physical disability that makes walking or cycling difficult, then walk or cycle. The two points are quite close, and a bike in particular would easily be the quickest option, as well as being far cheaper than taking public transport.

45 minute walk would be more than most people would like in the morning. Cycling would be handy enough.

With the bus, you'd be looking at at least 15 minutes walking to and from the stops each way, or two separate buses through rush hour traffic. Plus Google Maps gives the distance from the triangle to the entrance of Elm Park as 3km, which means the OP may be looking at less than a half hour if they live on the southern side of Ranelagh.

Elm Park can mean several things - the golf club, the hospital or the new development beyond Merrion Gates - if the latter it's a bit more than 3km!!

From my house google maps says its a 55 minute walk. Might have to look into getting a bike because as you mentioned, there is a 15 minute walk either side of getting a bus anyway.

It's not the most attractive of commutes, but that is a matter of preference. I've ruled out Elm Park myself for this reason. If I had to do it, I would walk to the 4/7 in Ballsbridge. Maybe cycle in Summer, but not winter for various reasons (comfort and safety). If you're near the canal, a Dublin Bike to near the Schoolhouse might be an option.

OP where exactly are you going to?

The hospital or the development just before the Tara Towers?

Not sure where Tara Towers is as I'm not familiar with the area, but it's an industrial estate on Merrion Road called Elm Park, near a Texaco.

OK - that's a good bit beyond the hospital, and is the development just short of the Tara Towers, and is about 4 km from Ranelagh.

Apart from cycling, your only real public transport option is the 18 to Ballsbridge and the 4 or 7 to Elm Park.

It's the development of office blocks directly opposite Texaco and the Jacobs Building on the Merrion Road.

Realistically I'd say a bike is the best option, there would be a fair old walk at either end if you take a bus.

Why do you say that? If the OP takes the 18 and 4 or 7 there is hardly any walking involved at all, given that the 18 serves Ranelagh village and the 4 and 7 both stop directly outside the Elm Park development.

LEAP90 discount would reduce the cost of the commute - it would cost €1.50 on the 18 to the D4 hotel from the 1st stop on Chelmsford Road, and then a further €2.05 on the 4 or 7, less €1 LEAP90 discount.

So a total cost of €2.55 each way.

Because I said 'a bus', singular. For the distance involved, I'd regard two buses as overkill, might as well get a bike.

I'm all for multi-bus journeys, was a big fan of the T90 ticket (down to my last two at the moment before they expire on 31/12) but for that short journey I think two buses is OTT.
