OK so myself and herself decided to go somewhere for new years this year. Thinking of about 4 days and have been looking at flights accommodation etc and have narrowed it down to a few places. So if anyone has any advice/experiences/tips on going to any of the following itd be much appreciated!
    Brussels,Frankfurt,Amsterdam,Oslo,Copenhagen.
Neither of us have been to any of them and apart from Amsterdam don't know anything really about them. From researching Oslo would be extremely cold around that time? Any info on areas or particular places to stay would be great! Thanks!

I see Brussels is on your list so have a look at Brugge. It's about 1hr 30 on the train and it's a beautiful city. 2 nights in each would be my pick from your list.

They'll all be cold. Copenhagen would be nice but it's expensive. Oslo is eye-wateringly expensive. There's not much to Frankfurt for a city break unless I've missed something. Amsterdam is OK but much better in summer. The previous suggestion of Brussels and Bruges would be a good option.

Thanks for info so far. Open to suggestions if anyone has other places to recommend too. Main reason those places came to the top was us being able to find v good deals on flights around that time

Oslo is expensive and not terribly interesting in my opinion aside from a couple of museums. I imagine a nice meal would cost a fortune. I was there in December and the weather was OK though.

Copenhagen is much bigger but kinda bleak. I thought the weather was OK when I was there in January though there was a storm.

Prague, Krakow or Berlin would be great. All good value when you're there too.

Thanks for all the help guys, doing more research for the dates we have in mind and Prague and Berlin flights are not that much more expensive than places we've looked at...Krakow is a bit steeper but from the investigating I've done I think it'd be worth it. Any other more specific info on these few places, plus Amsterdam. Areas to stay in/to avoid, how expensive things,ie dinner out, are, things to do and see? I see Auschwitz is near Krakow, love to visit there. Really appreciate the help thanks!

there are all going to be cold that time of year but berlin has a big new years celebration https://www.berlin.de/en/events/3303144-2842498-new-years-eve-party-brandenburg-gate.en.html

not much happening in frankfurt that time of year

If you want to escape the cold at that time of year I'd recommend Lisbon....very beautiful, inexpensive and should be very pleasant weather-wise.
Berlin is amazing too but it's so big you really need at least a week there I found, but for such a major capital city it is quite inexpensive too.

    Hi there
I read your OP there. I have some great suggestions for a European City break for New Year. I believe that Paris is the best place to go for New Year as at midnight on New Years Eve there do be a spectaular fireworks display above the Eiffiel Tower and as theEiffiel Tower is all lit up it do be stunning. London is another great place to go for New Year as at midnight when the clock strikes tweleve on Big Ben a maginificent fireworks display is seen. But in London you would have to use sterling and I heard that the sterling is very expensive so if I were you I would definitely stick to Paris.

You didn't say if you were seeking a place with a big New Year's Celebration like a countdown with music and fireworks and crowds and such. Or just a European city-break trip that happens to be at the end of the year.

Have you considered Vienna? Vienna celebrates New Year's Eve throughout the city with multiple stages of music and events and the city centre is lit up for the occasion.

Brussels is a very good choice as well IMHO. From Brussels you can easily squeeze in a day trip by train to Bruges or perhaps Leuven.

Have you considered Madrid? Mrs JT & myself head over there fairly often and love the vibe there.
