Fixing MacBook Pro charger

I have had my MacBook for 7 years and yesterday my third charger broke from wear on the cable. I think this is ridiculous considering how expensive they are but it is what it is.

It still works when I put pressure on the broken end so was wondering what is the best way to fix it. One of my house mates has a soldering iron so would this be the best option?

I found this article online just wish I had used the method before

Here is a picture of the damage on my charger

They love themselves some planned obsolescence.

Open the housing, pull a few inches of cable into the housing and resolder it fresh.

    • Buy a new charger
      +
    • Buy some Sugru or ductape
    • Wrap the parts of the cable that keep breaking in Sugru/ductape

My housemate informed me about a replacement scheme that Apple have in place

Will bring it into CompuB tomorrow. Lots of success stories so fingers crossed
