Just checked my speeds there this morning and only getting 11mb download and 18mb upload. Was always rock solid at 48/49mb.

Checked my usage on Eircom and its gone off the scale compared to my previous usage.
    Your Broadband allowance
    Unlimited
Total downloads to date this month
    1,091.91 GB
Total uploads to date this month
    64.45 GB
Total upload/download used up to date/time
    1,156.36 GB
    Percentage used up to date/time
    n/a
    Broadband allowance remaining
    Unlimited

Do Eircom throttle with excessive downloads? I thought unlimited actually meant unlimited.

Living in Ashbourne area on the offchance that a problem in the general area.

What speed does your modem sync at?

What speed does your modem sync at?
    Interface Status Rate
    LAN1 Up 1000M / Full
    LAN2 NoLink N/A
    LAN3 Up 100M / Full
    LAN4 Up 100M / Full
    WLAN Up 144.5M
    Ethernet WAN NoLink N/A
    DSL Up RX:18698/ TX:20480(Kbps)
    3G USB NoDevice

Thanks for the reply, I assume this is what you were asking for and by the looks of it the root of the problem. Would that be done on Eircom's side or could it be a possible fault in the general area?

That's not your line stats, your line stats will have figures for sync speed, attenuation and SNR margin.

Something is affecting your downstream, unplug everything, remove the front of the master socket and post the line stats when the modem is connected through the Ethernet port on the back part of the master socket (the bit left on the wall)

Hi, I tried what you suggested but could not get anything once connected like that. I removed front plate and connected straight from the piece left on the wall to various ports at the back of the router. Could not establish a line regardless of which port I used. I tried with two cables to rule out a faulty one

You want to connect a cable from the black socket picture below to your router. Power the router off and repower it once all cables are connected.

You connect to the dsl port using the same phone cable you've always used, you do not use an ethernet cable. The port itself is ethernet but will take the smaller phone cable

Thanks for all the help. Ended up there was a problem somewhere with the line from where it entered the kitchen to where I have the router.

Quick trip to the Euro shop and all is sorted.

    Thanks again :)

Glad you got it sorted. Remember, the modem must be plugged into the master socket and you shouldn't use a flat cable from it longer than a meter.
