Hi I've been cycling to and from work lately due to a driving ban. The distance is 26km each way on rural secondary roads. The bike I have is a giant escape 3 with 32x700 tyres.
The 26km takes me on average 1hour 10mins
    Average speed 22kmh. I am a 230lb male 27 years old.
I was just wondering would it be worth my while getting a roadbike? Would it make the journey much easier and would it take much time off the journey.
I understand at my weight I might be too heavy for a roadbike?
What new roadbike would you recommend?
    Thanks

You're not too heavy for a road bike. Buy one I you want one, have you any interest in doing longer distances?

Recommendations are purely based on budget.

Thanks for reply ya I do want one just not sure is it worth dropping 700euro for before the Christmas?
The 26km each way 3times a week is tough enough now but yes as I lose weight I would have interest in increasing distance.
But at the moment cycling is a necessity more than a leisurely activity and am wondering will it shorten my journey much if I was to invest in a roadbike.

How long are you cycling to work?
Could you borrow a road bike for a few days?

For shorts spins of an hours duration I stick with my trek hybrid.

Your current bike probably has a less chance of getting a puncture might be a better option in the winter months.

They're definitely a big improvement for road cycling, I would definitely get one if I had a commute as long as yours. Mine is only 7km each way and I'm glad to have my road bike.

Can you get on the bike to work scheme?

With 700 x 32 tyres you should be clipping along reasonably enough as is imo.

I'm doing 50km x 2 and a 30km spin weekly on a hybrid with similar tyres and its only the lure of a sporttive is driving me towards a road bike.

I'm not sure an investment in a road bike is for you just now.

Thanks for replies I think I'll wait till the new year and maybe get a bike to work scheme for a good road bike. My fitness and weight should both he in a better place by then and will be able to get the most out of a road bike

Blasphemy. If the man fancies a road bike he should buy one.

OP, your weight and fitness level are irrelevant in this decision. It would save you some time on your commute, not a huge amount but it'll make cycling a more enjoyable experience

With 52k cycling per day, you'll almost certainly be fitter and leaner in a couple of months, and get a lot more pleasure out of a road bike. The wider tyres on the hybrid in the winter can be an advantage, and you always have the option to go for spikes and keep on cycling if there's snow or ice. Now's the time to start ogling bikes in your local bike store and online to get a feel for what you want and will likely get for your budget.

    ^^ All of this.
OP, check your tyre pressure. You could get a couple of Kmph extra just by making sure you are running at the correct pressure. Also, maybe put some bar ends on your bike for a few more hand position options. And enjoy your cycling, you won't believe how much fitter you'll get doing that mileage.

That 230lb will be down to 210lb in no time...:D

And yes it's always worth upgrading.
