Yep - clear skies and a lovely, big bright moon tonight in Dublin.

Here's hoping it stays like that for tomorrow night (well, not the "bright" obviously).

Irish Met says it will be cloudy tomorrow and overnight. BBC/UK Met is less pessimistic. Cloudy in the west at eclipse time, but clear in the north and along the Cork/Waterford coasts. East coast may be hit and miss, but mostly cloudy.

Is Ireland the only country that can have wall to wall high pressure and still be cloudy?

And here she is tonight .....

Hopefully the skies will be as clear tomorrow night!

Just waiting for the moon to move up a bit higher from the bushes to see it in the garden, but quite cloudy/misty at the moment in Co. Dublin just like that picture above. It might clear up later hopefully.

Unfortunately, the horizon was a little cloudy this evening, but here's a few shots of the moon rising above the Wicklow mountains. These shots were taken from the Curragh in Co.Kildare.

I think I saw 2am on one site? I actually came here to find out... I thought there'd be more buzz about it on here.

[edit] Good site that shows time vs coverage: http://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/ireland/dublin

Should I be seeing some kind of change? The moon looks kinda the same it did an hour ago

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 589 ✭✭✭Is1ldur

Okay. Looks like something may be starting now. Did they forget we move the clocks an hour or something?

About 95% eclipsed now. I've a great view from my little balcony.:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 514 ✭✭✭paulusdu

    just a sliver left

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,029 ✭✭✭shedweller

It looks a bit darker than the one i photographed a few years ago. Could the moon be that much closer to earth that the umbra is bigger and therefore a darker shadow??

Is this the peak now? Want to sleep but don't want to miss anything

Doesn't look red through the binoculars, ball of pale orange brick. Still a small sliver of light at the lower edge.

The peak would be in 17mins.

Some nice pics so far..! Can't believe I left the tripod in a place that would mean washing the whole house up! Oh well.. Next time!

That'd be in Dublin. The west is about half an hour behind I think 😕

Not for a lunar eclipse. If it were solar, you might be right.

Can anyone shed some light on why the sky went bright red for a while too? I don't have a decent camera so just got pics on my phone but can clearly see the sky getting redder and then fading back to black.
Is it clouds also reflecting the red colour?

I don't know anything about astronomy so apologies if it's a stupid question!!

Your camera adapted to the lower ambient light and exposed the shot for longer. If you can adjust the exposure time manually, try it. The longer you leave the shutter open when photographing the sky, the more red tinge you'll get.

I had a quick look online at my phone cameras user tips and it seems it can be done manually so I'll try that. Thanks, that's really interesting!!

Full eclipse but the usual light limitation is a problem when fully eclipsed :) And yes, I forgot to turn automatic focus off

Don't know why Camera started workin but got the blood moon
