Finding an Apprenticeship (Electrical)?

Hi all, I'm looking to get an Electrical Apprenticeship and have been trying for the last 6 months.

I've applied to Irish Rail, ESB, Eircom, Glanbia and Boliden.
Had no look with any of these except Boliden where I was shortlisted for an interview but unfortunately didn't make the cut.

I'm now looking through indeed.com for apprenticeships and have applied to a few but most of them aren't local (Co. Meath) or aren't Electrical.

My question is; what methods did current apprentices use to find apprenticeships which weren't widely advertised such as ESB and Eircom? Has anyone any ideas where I could look for one? Tips on getting one?

    Thanks.

Most apprenticeships are with small and medium firms, have you contacted any local contractors? You also have large electrical contractors, such as Designer Group, have you contacted this set of companies?
