A friend is selling a zafira sri 2006 1.9 diesel with long nct and in very good condition but theres one little problem, it has to be topped up with water every week. It needed a new washer for an injector(if she remembers correctly) recently but apart from this, its all in good nic. What i want to know is what could be causing this to make it need water every week. Wanting to know this before i spend any money on it incase it turns out to be a major problem down the line

There are no friends or family when it comes to buying and selling a car imo. Actually I would go as far as saying don't sell or buy any car to or from family/friends, it usually just ends in grief and rows. Not worth the agro no matter how cheap it is.

Unless you can see water dripping from a cracked pipe or coolant bottle (that can be fixed easily) walk away.

Why though. Is this a sign theres serious problems ahead!

What he means is if you can't see the water coming out, it must be going in. In to the engine that is through a faulty head gasket.

Check the oil, if there is any sign of foam you have a problem.

Is there any way of getting it tested to see if its the head gasket. I know petrol engines are renowned for this so i wouldn't have expected it to be the gasket on a diesel.
